Historic PAGA Reform Approved by Legislature - Fix PAGA | There's a Better, Fairer Way for California Workers Today, the Fix PAGA coalition, representing non-profits, social justice advocates, family farmers, health care providers and businesses, applauded final legislative passage of SB 92 (Umberg) and AB 2288 (Kalra) to reform California’s broken Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA).
"Participation in the festive ceremonies enables Carter Myers to promote the many benefits of careers in the trades, which for decades have played second fiddle to white-collar jobs that require four-year college degrees. It also helps the dealership group make headway in mitigating the nationwide shortage of technicians."
Dealership group celebrates apprentice technicians with signing ceremonies To celebrate students who choose to become auto repair technicians — as well as raise the profile of such careers — Carter Myers Automotive partners with high schools in its stores' markets to hold signing ceremonies for those students.
Thanks to California New Car Dealers Association and New Car Dealers Association San Diego County members, and the Fix PAGA: There's A Better, Fairer Way for Workers Coalition, the Governor’s office, the Labor Federation, and the Coalition agreed on a deal to reform PAGA, which the Governor publicly announced on Tuesday.
Measure to repeal PAGA Act coming off ballot after rare agreement California Gov. Gavin Newsom says an agreement has been reached to reform a decades-old state law that allows employees to sue their employers over labor violations.
"Opponents of PAGA’s current structure say the law largely benefits lawyers who file lawsuits for technical violations of the state’s sprawling labor code like spelling errors. They point to cases where attorneys reap payouts that are larger than what the workers get. The business coalition says instead of lawsuits, the state should bolster enforcement of the labor code and raise penalties for certain violations to deter bad actors."

Great work by Productions Plus to gather audience insights from a variety of auto shows across the country.
"This national study validates what the auto show community has known for some time, which is that auto shows play a crucial role in shaping future purchase decisions," said Jennifer Morand, President of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association and General Manager of the Chicago Auto Show. "Even in today's digital world, there is no better place to showcase the latest product in front of qualified buyers than an auto show. Moreover, as the auto industry continues to shift to EVs and other alternative fuel options, auto shows serve as vital educational platforms for widespread adoption of these new technologies."

"Car dealers are very much a part of their communities, directly investing in their neighbors through car donations, Little League sponsorships, YMCA donations and more. This is just the start of what dealerships bring to the local table. I think they are, in fact, one of the U.S.'s last true 'Main Street businesses,' and an indelible and essential part of the economic, philanthropic and service engine that drives local communities."
Council Post: The Last True Main Street Business: What Is The Role Of Car Dealerships In Local Economies? Dealerships, by their very nature, must be part of the community, giving back as much, if not more, than they bring in.

"The general revenue measure would be a 1-cent city sales tax increase that would raise the sales tax from 7.75 percent to 8.75 percent and double how much sales tax revenue San Diego receives annually — from $400 million now to what is projected to be $800 million under the measure."
Two San Diego tax hikes are one step closer to the November ballot — and one could have an easier time passing The big news Wednesday on the flood prevention measure was the proposed tax rate, and the possibility of lowering the approval threshold from two-thirds to a much more achievable 55 percent

"Critics of the EV tariffs say they go against national efforts to reduce carbon emissions, and they prevent a low-cost option for consumers looking to avoid gasoline prices.
On the flip side, the American auto industry supports many high-paying union jobs and flooding an industry with cheap goods from Asia hasn’t historically been good for many cities and towns across the U.S. Also, there are national security concerns: The U.S. Commerce Department has launched an investigation into whether Chinese vehicles’ navigation and communication features could spy on Americans."

California new car dealers are currently experiencing a severe shortage of technicians, needing an average of four additional techs per dealership. With 120+ dealerships located within San Diego County, there are plenty of opportunities for techs to begin rewarding, long-term careers.
Automotive technicians at new car dealerships work in an exciting field using cutting edge technology and equipment. Technicians spend their days working hands on solving engaging automobile problems.
The majority of automotive technicians attend 2 year community colleges instead of 4 year institutions, saving both time and money. Dealers rank willingness to work hard as one of the most desirable qualities in a new tech hire, and 53% of these entry-level jobs require no certifications.
The average entry-level salary for California New Car Dealership Technicians is $43,000, while the average salary for all techs is $73,000. Median salaries continue to rise year after year, and top-tier techs earn an average of $140,130 in compensation. A career as a service technician in California not only pays well but comes with job security and satisfaction.
85% of entry tech respondents indicated that they would recommend the career to a family member or friend. The number one benefit listed by entry-level techs is advancement opportunities, showing that these jobs offer career growth at an accelerated pace.
