Don't forget to keep your beneficiaries updated! Major life events, such as the birth of a child, marriage, divorce, or a death in the family, should prompt you to check your beneficiary designations and ensure they are current. You can update your beneficiaries directly through your Member Portal account, linked below. The only beneficiary designation you CANNOT change, is your continuance beneficiary (applicable to active DROP participants and retirees only).

Valentine's Day is upon us! Don't forget that big life changes (like marriage or divorce) should prompt you to update your SDCERS beneficiary designations.

Also, remember that in order to select Maximum Benefit (Married) - the only option that allows you to leave a 50% continuance benefit to your spouse or registered domestic partner WITHOUT requiring a reduction to your pension benefit - you must be legally married or in a registered domestic partnership with your designated continuance beneficiary on your retirement or DROP entry date.

So don't be afraid to feel the love and pop the question!

Effective January 1, 2024, the DROP account rate will increase to 4.2% and the DROP annuity interest rate will increase to 4.6%. Every year, the Board's November meeting is arguably the most exciting for our retired members (rivaled only by the May meeting, when the COLA is approved) due to the Board's vote regarding the Annual Supplemental Benefit. We are pleased to announce that the Board voted today to approve payment of the Annual Supplemental Benefit (and by default, the Corbett Settlement Increase) to all eligible retirees for 2023. If you are eligible for one or both of these payments, the addition will be included in your November 2023 pension benefit payment.
