WOW. What a journey the last 10 years have been.
From a small donut & coffee shop on 30th St. to a full fledged café & wholesale operation on University Ave, we’ve been through many iterations of Nomads in the last decade.
We consider this a testament to our team’s dedication to excellence but also a beautiful reflection of how the North Park neighborhood has rallied around us through the good times and the hard times.
It’s not easy to keep a small business alive and we’ve battled to keep our doors open because it’s truly special being part of your day and to have you as part of ours.
Thank you to our incredible team, our awesome community and to each of you who has shown us love over the last 10 YEARS!

TALKING HEADS 🗣️
Take a second to meet Justin, our new HEAD pastry chef, and Des, our assistant pastry chef!
Justin, born and raised in San Diego, brings 17 years of pastry experience, starting with a degree from Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, followed by a recruitment into Harrah’s Casino in 2007. Mentored by the late Cruz Caudillo, Justin gained valuable experience under pastry legend Tina Luu at Heaven Sent Desserts. Over the years, Justin has held prominent roles, including lead pastry chef at D Bar SoCal and Juniper and Ivy, pastry chef assistant to sibling Jamie Decena at Cowboy Star, and executive pastry chef at Table 926, Hilton Bayside, Nolita Hall, and JRDN. Outside the kitchen, Justin is a key figure in San Diego’s street dance community, a b-boy for 22 years, and also draws from their passion for graffiti to create unique and artistic pastry designs.
Des began their baking journey back in Chicagoland, starting with pretzels and quickly discovering a passion for the craft. They soon mastered family recipes like banana bread and sweet potato pie. In 2018, Des moved to San Diego and honed their skills at Okayama Kobo, specializing in Japanese pastries and shokupan. A year ago, Des joined Nomad, where they’ve combined American flavors with Japanese techniques to create innovative treats. Their favorite creation? Our irresistible browned butter oatmeal cookies!
