As a Black woman-owned business, it is deeply disheartening to see opportunities continuously taken away from us. Despite the already challenging journey of bringing our vision to life, we constantly face obstacles from those who seek to oppress us.

When I first opened The Formula Skin Lab, my vision was to create a space where people of color, regardless of gender, could come and find a safe place to relax and unwind. The journey has been long and uphill, often leaving me feeling defeated. Every dollar earned has been reinvested into this vision, yet gaining interest in funding, loans, and investors remains difficult simply because of my skin color.

At times, I feel like giving up. However, the support from all of you keeps me going. Whenever I consider closing, my dear clients ask when they can next visit. My supportive team has been with me through this journey, and I feel obligated to show them the bigger picture I envision.

Headlines like these feel like a slap in the face after all I have endured as a Black woman in business, but I remain determined. I firmly believe there is always another way to achieve your goals as long as you have faith.

With that being said, I urge everyone reading this to continue supporting your local and online Black-owned small businesses whenever you can. We urgently need people like you to help keep Black businesses in our communities. Otherwise, corporate greed, racism, classism, gentrification, and outright hatred will continue to drive us out. 🖤
