Funding Opportunities 11/02/2021

Introducing:

The UCSF Human Performance Center Seed Grant

The Human Performance Center serves primarily as a research facility, partnering with other research labs, scientists, and companies around UCSF, and the entire Bay Area, to carry out studies in the areas of biomechanics, exercise physiology, and sleep & athletic performance. Our state-of-the-art equipment, and staff expertise, enables us to handle a diverse range of research opportunities, from knee osteoarthritis to prostate cancer, and more. Visit our website to learn more: https://hpc.ucsf.edu/funding-opportunities

Objective:

Provide “seed” opportunities for faculty, researchers, and trainees that have research needs involving biomechanics and/or exercise testing of which the HPC can provide and might lead to future funding. Proposals with novel ideas as well as proposals that are an add-on to a current research study will be considered if the goal is to acquire pilot data for possible future funding.

Award Amount and Allowable Costs:

One award will be given during this grant cycle.

The maximal amount of funds available for this fiscal year is $5,000 in HPC Services. Services may consist of data collection with existing HPC capabilities in biomechanics, exercise physiology, functional testing, or some combination. Grant funds will cover data collection services only. Data processing will be completed by the applicants with support from HPC staff and comprehensive SOPs to guide the applicants if necessary.

Reach out to Brooke Schultz ([email protected]) for a comprehensive list of the services and their fees provided by the HPC Recharge Center.

Application Details:

Eligibility: All UCSF faculty may apply for the funds; junior faculty are particularly encouraged to apply. However, staff and trainees (Postdocs, PhD students, Residents, Fellows, and SRAs) may also apply but only with a UCSF faculty mentor acting as a Co-PI or PI on the project; therefore, assuming fiscal responsibility for the grant and undersigning the science.

Deadline: November 12, 2021. Funding decisions are usually made within four weeks of the deadline.

Preventing youth injuries has been a hot topic for many in the recent years, and now more than ever with the extended time taken off due to the pandemic. To help cater to this need, the team at the UCSF Human Performance Center & UCSF Sports Medicine have developed an evidence-based injury assessment program for the Bay Area youth athletes. This program is designed to help slowly build their way back into competitive shape and perform at the highest level, while also avoiding any injuries. For details about the program, please see the flyer attached and for any additional questions or concerns please contact us as [email protected].

Welcome to the UCSF Human Performance Center 09/22/2020

Hi everyone, we hope you guys are staying safe and healthy during these challenging times! We all know staying at home and not being able to go out or visit the gym has been keeping us quite limited to what we are able to do these past few months, but we are here to present some great news. The team here at the UCSF Human Performance Center are happy to announce that we are resuming a few of our services that are offered here in the lab. These services include the RunSafe program and performance testing (we are currently only offering VO2max tests and you must perform a COVID test prior and submit negative results before coming into the lab). The team running these services will be taking all necessary precautions to keep everyone’s safety in mind by following all state and city mandates regarding these types of activities and this includes monitoring the number of individuals allowed in a room together to ensure there is enough space for physical distancing and also having the staff wear the appropriate gear and PPE when required. Masks will also be required for all individuals when inside the lab. If you have any questions regarding RunSafe and the modifications we’ve made to the program, please visit our homepage at https://www.irunsafe.com/ or email us at [email protected]. Information regarding the VO2max testing can be found at https://hpc.ucsf.edu/. We hope to see you in the lab soon!
