Number of Homes on the Market in S.F. Jumps, Pricing Drops
The net number of homes on the market in San Francisco, including condos, jumped over 20 percent last week following a typical holiday drop.
As such, while listed inventory levels are still 10 percent lower than at the same time last year, they’re 30 percent higher than average for this time of the year, 90 percent higher than prior to the pandemic, and 150 percent higher than in 2015, despite misreports of “record low inventory levels” and subsequent misanalyses of the market at hand.
And while listed inventory levels jumped, the average asking price per square foot of the homes on the market in San Francisco dropped around 6 percent and is now down around 9 percent on a year-over-year basis

Tony Bennett tributes pour in from San Francisco leaders: ‘A national treasure’
Tony Bennett, the dapper Grammy-winning singer, painter, humanitarian and philanthropist whose career spanned six decades, amassed fans in nearly every corner of the world. Upon news of his death on Friday, July 21, at age 96, tributes from fans and celebrities flooded social media and news feeds.
While the crooner may have been a New Yorker, when he first sang “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” in 1961, it left an indelible mark on its namesake city. As such, local politicians chimed in to speak to the impact Bennett had on the city by the bay, with state Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, noting the singer “captured San Francisco’s essence.”
San Francisco Mayor London Breed ordered the flags at City Hall to be lowered to half-mast.
“His contributions to this city go far beyond words on a page or melodies in the air,” Breed said in a statement. “From the first day he sung ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco’ at the Fairmont Hotel through all the decades since, Tony Bennett embodied a love for this city shared by all San Franciscans. Today we honor his memory and celebrate his legacy that will stay with us forever.”
