Therapy is often associated with mental illness or emotional distress. And it is true that, frequently, therapists work on addressing mental health problems (e.g., depression, anxiety, dysphoria, etc.). You might actually be offended if someone told you, “you need therapy.” But therapy can also be a valuable tool for self-improvement and personal growth.
Bluetonz was built to keep the stylist-client relationship going even after salon visits. As of today, we've helped more than 500 salon clients find a stylist! And we've helped salons set up a business model to deliver 1000+ custom-made hair color kits on-damn.

All industries make a big shift eventually, often utilizing digitalization. For foodservice, the birth of Doordash allowed them to thrive both during and after the pandemic. Fitness had Peloton, especially as people began to crave the outdoors more than ever before. While certain experiences couldn’t be perfectly replicated--like going to a salon, restaurant, or gym--people could have convenient substitutions that kept them stimulated when they needed to stay home. Industries everywhere are seeing shifts towards:
•On-Demand - People are less likely to leave their homes if they do not absolutely need to.
•Convenience - People are less kind to inconvenience, even if said inconvenience is minor.
•Affordable Beauty - Accessibility and affordability were rare in the beauty industry previously, but they are the gold standard now (as they should be).
Overall, these transitions feel natural to the ebb and flow of life. We’re adjusting to the “new normal,” as sick as we are of that cliche. However, minor and major shifts can help salons thrive in this new world. One must not simply aim to achieve. Sustainable results are a must in business these days. You can choose to sink, or you can choose to float gracefully on a pool floaty with a margarita in hand.
Many feared for the financial wellbeing of salon artists during the COVID-19 pandemic. If they couldn’t take care of clients, how would they earn income? Thankfully, our salon artists can earn commissions from every sale. So, think about those to-go orders that they began getting when clients eventually went back to the salon. They were able to take earnings from those sales towards their base pay. Digitalization proved that our salon artists could get paid more than their initial earnings pre-pandemic.
A wonderful side-effect of our Cinta Color online platform was that it could deliver the salon experience to the comfort of our clients’ couches. Our incredible salon artists can provide DIY application videos (although we typically would warn against boxed dye!) and virtual consultations. This palatable format was not only engaging, but enticing, and it encouraged our clients to venture back to the salon once they were vaccinated. Since they learned they could DIY some touch-ups, clients began asking for their favorite colors to-go, much like they would with a refill cup at a restaurant. Consequently, this established extra trust between the client and salon artists, since they knew they were given the tools they needed to thrive.
As artists, we’re constantly thinking creatively, finding new ways to innovate. We established an online platform where our salon artists and owners could maintain their relationship with clients between visits. During the pandemic, uncertainty was certain. It was difficult to determine the frequency with which people could come in to get their hair done, especially as soft-openings allowed nervous swimmers to dip their toes in our frozen waters. As that defrosted, though, we found that this online platform allowed for community and collaboration, which was also desperately needed after navigating COVID-19.
As a salon, Cinta Color has had to think outside the box to thrive post-pandemic. It was challenging enough to stay afloat, but stagnancy never helped anyone. We knew that the post-pandemic world would be an entirely different beast to conquer, and we’d need to stand out to stay ahead. This would mean completely altering our business model, ultimately altering it to adjust to postmodern times. Our partner-in-crime ended up being digitalization. We didn’t know just how versatile digitalization could be until we tried it for ourselves. Now, we quite literally cannot live without it.

Hair is an emotional thing; people put a lot of their personality and self-expression into their hair. For some, hair is representative of their cultural history, putting even more pressure on salon artists to get it right the first time. For example, if someone trusts us to do twists or rows, they’re trusting us to accurately portray that aspect of their culture. It must be known that you care about them on a more personal basis and that your relationship is not merely transactional. A good way to do this is to interact with clients between visits. Everybody approaches this differently, but it can be as simple as following each other back on Instagram and keeping up with their lives by liking their posts.
COVID-19 has been the biggest uphill battle that any salon has had to face. For nearly a year, many salons had to close down their operations entirely. This left many small business owners lost, hoping that a change in the pandemic could provide the Midas touch in their sales after many were yearning for a fresh haircut during turbulent times. Salons can assimilate by changing operational hours, limiting client intake, and spending more on sanitization products. However, many also realized that they had to combat the increased need to limit the use of at-home products that could damage their clients’ hair. Therefore, they put more products in their salons that would encourage clients to make healthier choices, as well as continuously dedicating their pockets to shopping small.
Overall, salons have had to adjust their business practices now more than ever before. The industry has always changed at a rate that is incredibly fast, but this has only seemed to increase over time. Thankfully, these tips can help salon owners take back their industry by engaging with these changes instead of fighting against them. There are always ways for small businesses to thrive, even during turbulent times. The most successful salons will see these changes as tools, not trials.
We love vibrant, colorful hair. However, when clients feel that salon visits are too expensive or time-consuming, they’re quick to purchase box dye. While the box dye industry has improved significantly, it still damages hair due to its harsh chemicals. This is especially true for clients who wish to see drastic transformations, such as taking dark browns or blacks and turning them to platinum blonde. While our salon artists are incredibly talented, there is no guarantee that box-dyed hair will be able to see a classic platinum blonde look. If they can, it will likely take several salon visits, as well as many layers of toner.
Hailey will show us how quick and easy it is to use our home kits!
You can order your home kits on cintacolor.com and choose one of the three delivery options!
1. Have it shipped
2. Curbside pickup
3. Or Uber delivery for locals who live within 10 miles of our salon
Embracing modernity can be difficult for those who feel less technologically inclined. Our salon has fully embraced digitalization. If doctors, restaurants, and even car dealerships have embraced the digital world, so can we! Digitalization can also lead to monetization when it is utilized strategically. Video platforms can be a pivotal resource for showcasing the talents of your team. Posting tutorials is a great way to show what your team can do. Similarly, some platforms like TikTok provide the opportunity for mass lead generation if your videos go viral. Additionally, online consultations can drive conversions by making your salon more accessible to others’ schedules. They will begin to see that you are dedicated to their needs, versus solely seeking profitable gains. As our services grow to be more accessible, our clients will be more drawn to us. While we have complete faith in the talents of our salon artists, we know that we must establish this trust with our clients over some time.
These days, the salon industry is infinitely different from what it was a decade ago. Salon survival strategy seems to change as quickly as the hair trends themselves do. Microtrends have taken over, and salons can either adjust with the times or fall flat, ultimately self-destructing in the process. However, we’re committed to taking back the industry. Accommodating doesn’t mean plateauing. By working together with current trends and patterns, we can cultivate a space that’s inspiring and welcoming for each client, as well as each salon artist.

We probably don’t think about this much, but sleep affects your hair’s health too! Your hair is impacted the same way your body does when you lack sleep and rest.
While you sleep, your body uses up nutrients from the body to build strong healthy cells. Plus, melatonin helps your hair become healthy too, which also supports restful sleep. So make sure you get enough sleep!
We just want to give a big shout-out to one of our amazing brands, Aveda! They have been a part of Earth Day for over 50 years! Aveda continues to use responsibly sourced ingredients, renewable energy, and also supports and contributes to organizations that do the same. Like “The Earth is Our Children’s. The Choice is Ours.” to halt deforestation. And that’s a win in our books!
