SYNOPSIS A man’s conscience is his most precious possession. What men do not know, however, is that their consciences inhabit a world parallel to ours. And if things are not going so well with us, it is not that things are better over there, in the Other World. Consciences are discouraged, unmotivated, unheard. All but one. Otto is the best conscience in Italy because Filippo, his ‘protégé,’ follows him blindly, guaranteeing him resounding scores. At least until, on the eve of his wedding, Filippo turns out to be repressed and decides to disobey his conscience because he has fallen in love with someone else, a girl named Valentina, who has made him lose his mind. Otto has no choice but to descend to Earth to bring him to his senses and not lose his well-deserved promotion. Too bad that, up close, the line between Good and Evil is much harder to see: being a Human Being is a very complicated job, especially when love is involved.

The talk will explore Alfonso Femia’s works at the waters edge: and will share insights on resilient design and other relevant topics related to waterfront development as demonstrated by projects designed by Alfonso Femia's studio; including Porto Marghera, Reggio Calabria, Barcelona, La Spezia and Ravenna, as well as the "famous case" of the Marseille Docks, with water as an essential element, at the center of the architect's research for years. Femia and his team have been working to transfer a theme, precisely water, which he himself defined as " the true sentinel of climate change”.
This event is organized by San Francisco International Practice Knowledge Community and the Center for Architecture + Design as part of the 21st Annuyal Architecture + The City Festival.

Drawing inspiration from Paul Gauguin’s first journey to Tahiti in 1891, The Dawn of Creation weaves a narrative that intertwines with the ancient Tahitian culture, deeply informed by the studies of Teuira Henry, an ethnologist from the late 19th and early 20th century. The film follows the footsteps of an artist who embarks on a solitary expedition into the island’s hinterlands. During an extraordinary night, this journey leads to a magical encounter with a deity from Tahitian mythology. This pivotal moment sparks a profound contemplation, birthing a story that blurs the lines between the human and the divine, challenging our perception of reality and spirituality.
A Q&A session will follow the screening.

The photographic exhibition "Siamo mare - We are Sea" takes the public on a journey through the emotions and beauty of Italy as seen from the sea, narrated through the extraordinary biodiversity of its marine environment and the variety of its coasts.
The Italian seas are a vital source of biodiversity for our country, the Mediterranean, and the planet. The photo exhibit "Siamo Mare – We Are Sea" aims to present an international audience with a fresh perspective on the beauty of Italy’s seas, coasts, and landscapes. It also seeks to raise awareness about the need to protect the rich yet fragile marine ecosystems upon which we depend.
The exhibition accompanies the Italian Navy training ship “Amerigo Vespucci” in a two-year world tour, visiting over thirty ports and promoting initiatives related to marine studies, education, and scientific dissemination about the seas and oceans. This journey symbolizes Italy’s deep connection with the sea and the Italian government’s commitment to marine cooperation and research. Because we all must embrace the sea. Siamo Mare. We Are Sea.

MADE IN ITALY: MORRICONE, LEONE, AND MORE
As a boy, Ennio Morricone (1928–2020) considered becoming a doctor or competitive chess player, but he was encouraged by his father, a trumpet player, to study music. After graduating from the Conservatory of Music Santa Cecilia, Morricone, while writing his own compositions, worked as a trumpet player and arranger of popular music. In 1961 he began scoring movies. Morricone was constantly engaged in research and experimentation—from 1964 to 1980, he performed and recorded with the avant-garde improvisation ensemble Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza—and the depth and scope of his musical erudition, from classical to jazz, popular to experimental, orchestral to folk, are evident in the hundreds of films he scored.
Discounted ticket price for the Friends of the Italian Cultural Institute: $10 with the code ENNIO24.
Presented in partnership with Cinecittà and with support from the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco.
