We are Honored to Be Part of the AIASF Homes Tour!
We are thrilled to announce that our latest project, a two-unit residence in Russian Hill, has been selected for the AIASF Homes Tour this year, taking place on Saturday, September 21st. This home, designed in collaboration with our client Julia Campbell, stands as a testament to the endurance and creativity required in the field of architecture, which we often refer to as the longest art form.
This project marks our first entirely new construction from the ground up in San Francisco, making this inclusion all the more special.
Tickets for the tour are available at the link in our bio. Additionally, we invite you to join us at the Architect’s Forum on September 19th at the Center for Architecture.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Somewhere on a lush, sun drenched island in the Ionian Sea, a residence is being constructed with 2-1/2 feet thick walls made of stone gathered from the island. A study and celebration of a variety of contrasts.
Primal - Sophisticated
Monumental - Intimate
Ancient - Modern
Sun - Shade
This is one of three arches in the residence. The arch… futurist and nostalgic, simplistic and complex. It provides openness in the most solid construction. This is the circulation path buried in the stone. The view and access to that wonderful blue Mediterranean water denied while being enveloped in cool marble.
Anticipation of what is to come…

Last night we were beyond honored to win an award from the International Interior Design Association Northern California Chapter for the project we designed for The Caffe by Mr. Espresso. An enormous thank you to the IIDA, the committee, and the jury. We cannot thank our client, Mr. Espresso, enough for the opportunity to design this special space for them. Though this is a design award, the design would not be possible without the vision and determination of Mr. Espresso. We started this project with them prior to the pandemic. As restaurant after restaurant shuttered due to the pandemic, Mr. Espresso remained committed not just to themselves, but to the community at large. They were determined to be part of the community and culture that is their hometown, Oakland. So huge kudos and thanks to Luigi, John, and Laura.
These kinds of awards would mean nothing if the level of design talent in Northern California were not what it is. We are surrounded by, and inspired by a community of designers that is unparalleled. Seeing amazing project upon project being presented on screen last night instilled us with a combination of humility and pride.
The category we submitted is called JEWEL BOX and was defined as “Where we indulge: retail, wellness, hospitality, healthcare, and other experiential destinations on a smaller, more intimate scale. Projects under 5,000 usable square feet.”
Again, an enormous thank you to the IIDA to have an award for this category. We have always believed in quality over quantity and though we do design larger environments, we are a small firm and are so grateful that our community of such large talent sees the value in (and rewards) the small jewel boxes of space.
Finally… congratulations to Grace Leung whose hard work and attention to detail as Project Architect on this was awe inspiring. Congrats to our entire staff who helped design, but also rolled up their sleeves to help fabricate and install the ceiling sculpture. It quite literally would not have happened without them.
More to follow on this project soon.

When Amber Evans of Evans Design Studio reached out to us with the potential to collaborate on the offices of Inclusive Capital, we were ecstatic. Amber is a formidable talent (and happens to be the spouse of our Studio Director, Aaron Goldman). The clients were a dream to work with.
We took a moment to speak with Edie Cohen at Interior Design Magazine about the project, and are delighted to share that with you.

Last week, the Miami Marlins broke ground on their new baseball academy in the Dominican Republic. Designed by jones | haydu in conjunction with the Marlins, the academy continues to fulfill the Marlins promise to make significant investments in player development and international talent. The 35 plus acre plot of land will feature three Major League sized playing fields, along with an agility field, four covered batting cage tunnels, and a covered set of six pitching mounds. The complex will also house two main buildings. Visitors are greeted by a two-story athletic and administration building, with locker rooms, offices, and a 4,800 plus s.f. weight room. Anchoring the other end of the campus is a two story residential and educational complex housing players participating in the Marlins Dominican Leage team. The residential and educational complex will be outfitted with a dining hall, chapel, four classrooms, computer lab, dormitory, and lounges, all surrounding a grand courtyard which serves as a large outdoor classroom and gathering space. The entire combined square footage of the two buildings will more than double the size of the current Marlins complex.
In attendance at the ceremony was Marlins CEO Derek Jeter and General Manager Kim Ng, joined by Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader, Dominican Republic Minister of Sports Francisco Jose Camacho Rivas, and Mayor of Boca Chica Fermin Brito.
The Marlins’ academy will begin construction immediately under the guidance of Dominican Republic-based general contractor Hermida & Asociados, San Francisco-based architects jones | haydu, and DR-based JMF Arquitectos.
We at jones | haydu are beyond honored to be playing on this team.

This one is close to our home and heart. We know there are a lot of places you can be donating right now. If you don't mind, take a second to look at this and see if you can join us in donating. It is a design-build effort led by undergraduate architecture students at AAU, who have designed this through participatory design with residents at Bayview Commons.
