Sara la Guerrera | part III
She amazed me during the photoshoot and her interview. I am honored to reflect her story through portraiture.
“My name is Sara Andriana Perez Lanzarin. I am not just a survivor; I am a warrior and a living testament to resilience. These scars on my body are not just marks; they are the indelible imprints of the six types of cancer I have defeated.
Surviving cancer is not merely a physical feat; it is a battle that encompasses the mind, body, and spirit. The journey is physically and mentally draining, but I refuse to let it define me or dim my spirit. I am here to show the world that despite the hardships, one can emerge stronger, more determined, and full of hope.
I want people to see my scars and recognize them as symbols of triumph. They are not wounds of defeat but badges of courage and endurance. The fight against cancer demands unwavering energy and hope. It’s challenging, but it’s essential to never let the adversities bring you down.”

Sara la Guerrera | part II
Portraits of Sara and her daughter.
“My daughter is my everything, and she has been my driving force throughout my battle with cancer. When I was diagnosed, she was just a little girl. My initial goal was to survive long enough to see her graduate high school. As time went on, my focus shifted to witnessing her college graduation and being there for her as she navigates adulthood.
Having lost both of my parents at the age of 12 – my father to cancer and my mother to a heart attack a month later – I was determined not to let my daughter experience the same pain. I maintained a positive outlook during my battle with cancer, driven by the desire to provide her with a different narrative.
In the face of adversity, I found strength in the little victories along the way. Each treatment, each milestone became a symbol of resilience and determination. I want to emphasize that, while we all face mortality, the quality of how we live and love is what truly matters.
As I share my journey, I hope to inspire others to find strength in the face of challenges. Life is unpredictable, but maintaining a positive perspective and cherishing every moment with loved ones can make all the difference.”

Sara la Guerrera | part I
Today on I am honored to share portraits I took of Sara Adriana Perez Lanzarin.
She triumphed over 6 types of cancer. 3 types of sarcoma, cervical, eye, and kidney cancer.
She wanted to share these words with others who are battling cancer or any other illness.
“I only see sunshine, no clouds. If you ever see the dark cloud of depression, just blow it away! Never let it block your sunshine. “
These portraits are of her ready to conquer anything that stands in her way.
¡Qué viva Sara la Guerrera!
I’ll share more of her interview in 2 more parts.

Meet .dances Tara Cartagena
I am a 1st generation Guatemalteca. I come from a long linkage strong of women. I am a dancer, teacher, artivist, + student.
I have so much appreciation for arts and culture and I share that in the form of dance. I am an advocate for social justice, I work for underrepresented youth. Social work is a huge part of me and giving back to the community is something I live for, either through dance or my professional work.
I have been dancing since the age of 5. I trained in classical dance then throughout high school I started developing in cultural + folkloric dance.
In 2011 I started training in Afro-Brazilian dance with Fogo Na Roupa. Performing + teaching brought me to different stages around the world such as the Ethic Dance Festival, Carnaval in the Mission, and Carnaval in Rio, Brazil. I still consider myself a student and teach upincoming youth dance with Fogo and at SOTA.
Scroll to see full interview.
See Tara 10ft tall on 24th and Folsom.
