This week we hosted Sarah de Lagarde on Mount Kilimanjaro. Sarah first climbed Kilimanjaro with us in 2022. A month later, Sarah was involved in a London Tube accident which resulted in the amputation of her right arm and leg.

This week, Sarah made history by becoming the first female double amputee to summit Kilimanjaro. We are very proud to have helped Sarah on her journey to the top of Kilimanjaro! Read Sarah's inspiring story on the BBC link below. Thanks to Wayfairer Travel Agency for coordinating Sarah's two climbs with us! Dickson Sumary Emma Mungure Stand: We Walk Together

Wondering what the Mto wa Mbu Village Tour is like? Janet, a 2023 guest, has shared a video of the experience with us. Read this article for an account of the Maasai evictions from their homelands in Tanzania. Experiencing Maasai life is one of the highlights of any trip to Tanzania. We proudly support camps that have had a long relationship with and support for local communities such as Isoitok Camp, Kisima Ngeda, Mysigio Camp, and Lake Natron Camp. One of our all-time favorite trips in Tanzania is hiking with the Maasai along the Great Rift Valley from Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Lake Natron. It is an eye-opening experience for anyone who does it. Isoitok Camp Manyara

Mkomazi National Park is a seldom-visited park in Northern Tanzania. View wildlife without crowds. — Alika Africa // Duma Explorer 03/26/2024

Check out our post about Mkomazi National Park and Mkomazi Wilderness Retreat. This park and camp are perfect for the seasoned safari traveler. Off the beaten path, you will be virtually alone in the park with loads of wildlife and up-close interactions with Black rhino. We visited in June of 2023 and did not see a single other safari vehicle during our time there. Unique to Mkomazi, you fall asleep to the sound of trumpeting elephants instead of roaring lions or laughing hyenas which is more common in Northern Tanzania. Karibuni sana Mkomazi!

While a safari is often wild, fast-paced, and exhilarating, which makes for a thrilling adventure, there is something quite rejuvenating about slowing the pace.
The stillness and refreshing energy of the bush offer the best setting to reflect and reconnect with nature.

Kilimanjaro's Marangu Route has some new facilities! There are brand new huts at both Mandara and Horombo Huts. The units take 4 people each and have new bathrooms with hot showers! It is more expensive - a surcharge of USD 47.20 per person per night - but for those who want a bit more luxury this is a great option!

We're not done yet, here's Akagera national park photo dump we spend two nights here and this place is absolutely beautiful, well organized and controlled area lots of wildlife like rhinos, elephants, antelopes, lions, leopards, giraffes many more. It's really nice seen how much the government gives back to the community close to the park and the whole country from the money they get from tourism and made peace with everyone especially those who live to the border of the parks. We have an amazing tour guide who knows everything about this country and the history and culture and the people around which makes our trip so memorable and worthy.

After a very successful morning at the gorilla trekking we went back to the hotel for lunch and then went out again to visit the gorilla guardians village, this village has some interesting history because most of the people in here used to be poachers and the government thought of a way to help them stop poaching by giving them a chance to work as the guardians instead of putting them to jail and protect the wildlife and change their ways around. They are doing a great job and it worth visiting them.

Another excellent day, today we did the gorilla trekking and this is the best thing we've done so far, before the trekking day they give you some options to choose which hiking trail you want,we got lucky and had a great time with the gorilla family very close to the village after sometimes on the hiking we saw a family of 34 gorillas and made our day very special. I will say this country and the people are very organized so it very safe for us and anyone who visits and we spend more than hour with them. Every moment you spend with this amazing creature is priceless.🦍🦍we really enjoyed our time together with the wonderful gorilla family and later we went to visit the gorillas guardians village.

The day wasn't over yet we came back from the chimpanzee trekking back to where we started for canopy activity. Again it was an awesome experience to see the jungle from above the mountains ⛰️ and the view is beautiful. We did another hike with our female guide and she's absolutely amazing, there's so many different trails you can choose to hike and explore. Highly recommend this place if you visit Rwanda 🇷🇼. for day 3 to 9
