Just in case it slipped your mind, Friday 10/4 is Swedish Cinnamon Bun Day!
Swedish Cinnamon Bun Day is a real thing, and itâs happening at Kantine (and in Sweden) on Friday! This is the best excuse youâll ever have for setting aside time for pastry. Our bakers are ready to knot and twist for you, so donât delay in reserving your knots now!
Weâll be offering THREE types of buns: classic cinnamon knots, vegan cinnamon knots and pumpkin spice knots.
To purchase buns, you can either:
- stop by Kantine on Friday (between 9am-2pm, and maximum 6 buns per person, and beware that may sell out)
OR
- place an online order from our online store. NOTE: Please be sure you order your buns from the section specifically created for Cinnamon Bun Day. The deadline for preorders is Wednesday, 10/2 at 12pm. Once youâve placed your online order, your buns are secure! :) They will be boxed up and ready for pick up at your specified time. (Sorry, delivery is not possible on cinnamon bun pre-orders.)

Mark your calendars, friends. For just one night, Kantineâs display case wonât be filled pastries, but rather the array of sandwiches we have made for you. Thereâll be cold beer on tap, housemade fruit shrub spritzers and a couple desserts, too.
No reservations necessary, just swing by and say hi and, heck yeah, bring your backgammon board if youâre looking to play.

Summer holidays have begun!
Time for fun in the sun, and fun in the fog. Weâll be away for two weeks. See you again on Tuesday, July 30. đŤ
Summer smørrebrød with Grebbestads marinated sprats, potato and egg. đ On the menu through Sunday - and then we head on summer holiday. âď¸ Back Tuesday July 30!
SUMMER HOLIDAY!
This Sunday 7/14 we will be our last day of business before the entire staff heads on a two week break. So friends, if you have a hankering for Scandi food and drink, we suggest swinging by before 3pm Sunday.
Weâll reopen again at 8am Tuesday 7/30.
Wishing everyone some relaxation and fun summer vibes - we miss you alreadyâŚalmost! đ
Weâre closed tomorrow for the holiday, and back again on Friday at 8am. Wishing everyone a fun July 4th! đĽ
Some people donât like celebrating their birthdays, but weâre not like them. We can hardly wait to celebrate six years of 1906 Market Street with you all.
In the spirit of a giddy 6-year old, the festivities wonât be limited to just one day but rather throughout the week, and the point where it all culminates (the one you need to have scribbled in your calendar) is the evening of Friday, June 21. Two weeks from today.
More details to come very soon. We promise you wonât want to miss this!
Happy weekend, all!
We hold our breaths all year round for rhubarb season to start so we can make deliciousness like this: Ultra flaky, twice baked pistachio espresso pastry with rhubarb.
(We hope you arenât heading out of town for the weekend because then youâll miss out. Come on by!)
Just in case you didnât see our newsletter, weâre going to be serving our best Scandi fare at Outside Lands this year! Never before have we been a part of this annual San Francisco music and food extravaganza, so you can imagine how thrilled we are. Weâll be together with 90+ other food vendors, so come hungry! Find us rocking in the VIP area where weâll be dishing up hot smoked trout bowl, savory porridge, pølsehorn and cardamom knots. More details to come in the months ahead, but grab your tickets now before they sell out (like they always do)!
A new sweet porridge has been added to the menu. Crushed strawberries and raspberries, pistachios, cream, mint and tarragon. Reminds us a bit of Rød Grød med Fløde, a red porridge (no grains, just stewed fruit) that is eaten when red berries and rhubarb are at their best in Scandinavia.
Sheâs tender and sweet, and sheâs going to fit in so nicely in our pastry case this weekend. Please allow us to introduce the raspberry and cream bun. âĽď¸
What are your weekend brunch plans? đ
Itâs going to be a gorgeous weekend, both weather-wise and food-wise. Our bakery team is making classic Danish strawberry tarts all weekend long, and they are available as by the slice or as a whole tart.
Enjoy! đ

Wanna come over tomorrow night? Weâve got at hotdog pop-up planned at Kantine between 5:30-8pm and youâre invited!
Hereâs a bit of what weâre making:
- Swedish and Norwegian hotdogs (beef, pork or veggie)
- Guittard chocolate milk
- cold beer
- deviled eggs
- huckleberry carrot cake
Okay, okay, you might think that itâs odd to eat a hotdog in a flatbread, and the idea of putting mashed potatoes in that same flatbread might seem peculiar, let alone shrimp salad. But fine, think that way, just promise us that youâll at least taste it too. You see, thereâs a good reason why people eat hotdogs like this in Sweden: It tastes damn amazing!
And yes, letâs not forget the tamer (?) Norwegian dog on the menu too. Itâs a pork dog from @4505 slid into a potato flatbread and topped with homemade pickles, remoulade, spicy mustard and crispy fried shallots.
Come one, come all. No reservations necessary. Canât wait to feed you!
Just wanted to make sure the word is out about our hotdog pop-up this Thursday! đ đđ
Weâve held so many Scandinavian hotdog pop ups by now, it seems like weâll never, ever get tired of it! đ For us, itâs an evening where we can let our hair down (figuratively speaking only) and have fun with something outside of our normal repertoire. And you all seem to dig it too!
Our next hotdog pop-up will be this Thursday, 4/4 from 5:30-8pm.
This time around, weâre highlighting dogs from Norway and Sweden, so all our hotdogs (meat and veggie) will either be served wrapped in a tunnbrĂśd (SE) or potato lefse (NO) - two different types of soft flatbreads. Itâs been a while since weâve featured dogs wrapped like this, but itâs about time! (Yes, there will also be mashed potatoes and shrimp salad among our array of toppings, and yes to double-dog dogs. )
In addition to dogs, weâll have a few side dishes and desserts, along with loads of ice cold beer and our housemade Guittard chocolate milk. SkĂĽl! đť

Weâve gone all in with Swedish Sandwich Cakes. To those who are getting one in an Easter Bundle, you can look forward to it! đŤ
