As children we see into windows of others and wonder about the life within, the smells, the sounds. As architects we crave to know more about the spaces, the light, the details. Travel brings this desire even more to the fore with a desire to expand ones ideas and understanding for how to create space and “home" in new ways. Looking across the terrace today, one wonders where the stairway leads?

Inspirations from travel.
A pajama shop opened in the 1800’s still services clients in the old school manner of sizing and providing the product to them from their walls of packaged goods. At first disorienting, but becomes so individualized and intimate a process. A lovely interaction and a lovely proprietor.

This tricked-out DesignBuild project is a three level high-rise interior with wrap-around views of the San Francisco Bay and downtown. Designed as an open, modern and comfortable high-rise home for a design-focused couple for maximum flexibility and visible detailing to hide rooms or extra storage–a surprisingly convertible space.

Our client wanted to build a creative, vibrant space to cater to a modern tenant. After commitment from a high-profile Silicon Valley VC firm early in our design process, we then had two clients to engage with to fulfill a well-defined program mandate.

Designed for a developer this uphill site created an active, vertical house with stunning rear yard terraces and expansive views. The flexible floor plans allowed for diverse use and buyer appeal.
