Cliff House Online Auction Now Live

Bidding is underway for the Cliff House kitchen & restaurant equipment, as well as all memorabilia and art pieces! You can bid online now, with bidding closing on Thursday (3/11) for Day 1, Friday (3/12) for Day 2 and Saturday (3/13) for Day 3.

Everyone is welcome to participate. There are hundreds of dishes and plates, as well as contents of two full industrial kitchens. Loads of barware and service items. Even fine wines and premium spirits. Pretty much something for everyone!

The framed photographs, most with autographs and inscriptions, graced the walls of the iconic San Francisco restaurant through many decades, from the 1930s to present day. Cliff House Auction Update

The Cliff House auction dates have been moved back one week due to a recent burglary and the extended time it took for the Park Police to investigate and begin recovery of the stolen items. We are happy to report that a suspect has been arrested and all items have been recovered.

We feel moving the sale was needed to give us time to complete the cataloguing process that was interrupted due to the break-in and is most beneficial for all potential bidders.

The dates are now March 11, 12 and 13.

After so many inquiries we promised to let everyone know so here is the information about the upcoming auction of the Cliff House memorabilia and restaurant items. Truly the end of an era!

The boarding up of the Cliff House has begun!😭😭😭

Well that didn't take long!
These pictures show that our beloved Cliff House was tagged within hours of our stewardship ending at 10:00 pm last night. Most locals will know that graffiti was rarely an issue while we were guarding the building 24/7. We find it interesting that we were obliged to guard the building under our contract but the NPS feels no need to guard it themselves. We also find it interesting that the NPS managed to cover the graffiti within hours of being notified. Perhaps if they had been this focused and quick to act regarding a new contract back in 2018, we would not be in this position now!

Breaking News! The End of an Era?

After days of negotiations which appeared to lead to a workable solution for all parties involved, The Cliff House will close permanently tomorrow, Thursday, December 31, 2020. At 11:00 a.m. this morning, December 30, 2020 we were informed by the NPS, in a last-minute change of mind, that they were going back to their original offer, which is financially unfeasible to both Peanut Wagon, Inc. and our potential partner.

An anonymous source has told us that the NPS is considering turning The Cliff House into a Federal office building! We protest this awful turn of events and remind once again that this is in violation of their mission statement:

The mission of the National Park Service is to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. (Source nps.gov)

The Cliff House sign will be taken down at noon on December 31, 2020. The Cliff House will no longer be a restaurant and no longer available for the public to enjoy as it has for the past 157 years.

We invite all interested parties to join us tomorrow to witness the heartbreaking end of the iconic Cliff House, which began in 1863.

Cliff House landlord says it might not reopen the 157-year-old S.F. landmark as a restaurant In a letter, the National Park Service said it’s actively reevaluating future uses for the landmark space overlooking Ocean Beach.

We are getting many requests for a way to help which we did detail in our release. Unfortunately, our website has continued to be only intermittently available today. We would like to reiterate that according to an official letter from the NPS they are "evaluating" whether it is possible for this "concession" to go forward as a restaurant. Really?! Just what would they do with our Cliff House? By our we mean all of us, those us who love the Cliff House and all it has to offer. In addition that have indicated their willingness to allow a new operator to change the name!!!! It is has been the Cliff House for 157 years and now they think they have the right to take it away from us. If you would like to send your written protest to the NPS here is the info:

Update to our website issue:

We found out early this morning that the issue was actually a widespread outage with our hosting company.

They have fixed it for now but we did notice it going out a few times this morning. It is currently up and running.

Hello Everyone, it appears that our website received so much traffic after our announcement that the server has gone down. We are working with our server company to correct this and apologize for any inconvenience. Hopefully they will get it back up this evening otherwise check back tomorrow.

There is already such an outpouring of sadness and love coming our way. We thank all of you for your support - now and over the years. And we love all of you too!

NPS Forces Closure of the Cliff House!
Word is spreading rapidly around Facebook of the pending closure of the Cliff House. We have just posted our official news release on our website, cliffhouse.com. Read the facts, spread the word, hold the NPS accountable! What they have done is inexcusable!

About this time every year, Chef Ralph Burgin is usually dreaming up creative new recipes using his very own heirloom tomatoes for the Cliff House. However, due to the temporary closure, he found a new way to share not only his delectable crop, but his heart too!
