Bouquet breakdown of one of my own personal favorites of the summer season. This is an arrangement done by the ever-incredible for us last year. Or was it 2022?!! 😳 It’s still timeless to me!! What are your favorite summer goodies? 🌸

Meet the Gather team 💐 This is Jill, a member of our amazing LA stall team slinging blooms in the SoCal flower market!

Here’s a little bit more about Jill 🌸

Favorite Flower: All of them? Please don’t make me choose :(

Why Flowers: “Working with flowers literally makes me spring out of bed fresh as a daisy at 4 AM, excited to head to the market to see what cool blooms we have to fill the stand with. Early mornings with flowers and flower people - what’s better than that?

The LA stall is an absolute gem - it buzzes with creative energy to pull inspiration from. The farms Gather works with really love what they do and it shows through the buckets-full of goodies we get weekly! I love to be part of the process and I love witnessing florists or designers getting excited over things they pick out from our selection. Every day is something new!

Being from The Poconos, Pennsylvania where we’re big on all things local - it’s special to see a community of like-minded flower enthusiasts coming together keep it local, traceable, seasonal and provide access to it all in a metropolitan area. I’ve gained so much respect for the efforts put behind this mission and am really grateful to be a part of it!

Flowers are my whole personality now, but I still enjoy a few other things like writing and comedy, not listening to podcasts, and my two cats I stole from the streets of New York City!”

Thank you Jill for your hard work in the LA stall and sharing your passion for flowers with us and the world! If you shop in LA, stop by stall #6 and say hi 🌸

Happy meet the farmer Monday 🌼 today we’re so happy to feature Kelly Brown and the beautiful and bountiful Do Right Farm 💐 Not only do they lead the , you can also find their flowers in our SF and LA locations!

Kelly Brown started Do Right Flower Farm in the fall of 2020 on 4 acres of traditional land of the Awawas people, 30 minutes north of Santa Cruz, CA.

Responsibly stewarding the land and surrounding forest ecosystem through organic farming methods and reduced tillage are core values of the farm.

Currently Do Right is leading research about organic cut flower production and educating other growers to encourage sustainable farming practices more broadly.

Do Right is home to a dedicated crew of workers who each manage vital aspects of the farm. Kelly strongly believes in cultivating an educational space where workers can grow into self-directed skilled farmers and in turn, are paid well for their engagement. Do Right is proud to be a safer space for many q***r farmers to work without navigating the pressures of transphobia and misogyny typical on larger production farms.

Kelly Brown came of age in feminist q***r collectives organizing around safer s*x education, s*x worker and trans rights. Their work as a bike messenger in their 20s crystallized a love for dirty work outdoors followed by 11 years of working in the flowers at a nearby Blue Heron Farms. At Blue Heron, Kelly built relationships with several Santa Cruz and Bay Area florists seeking unusual and delicate flowers. These florist relationships were the driving force of Do Right’s inception and continue to be the focus moving forward. After running full speed for the first 3 seasons, season 4 of Do Right is centered on refining the quality of our blooms and care for the people and the land so that we can be here for the long haul.

We love Do Right Farm and are in awe of Kelly’s dedication to sustainability and community. Thank you Do Right Farm for sharing your flowers with SO many California flower lovers 🌼 🌊 🌲 stay updated with the farm

Happy Friday everyone, it’s one of our favorite times of the week - meet the florist Friday! Today, meet the talented Karen Coughlin of Clementina Floral and Golden Fields Floristry🌼 here’s more from her:

“I’ve been a florist for nine years and am the lead designer and production manager for Golden Fields Floristry. Under my own business, I do small events and local deliveries.

I have a never-ending fascination with nature, and flowers in particular have always had a strong pull over me. Flowering creates so much joy, and I’m grateful to be able to experience that and share it with others.

I come from a family of gardeners and flower lovers and have always been drawn to the community that flowering creates.

My floral philosophy is to follow nature’s lead and let the flowers speak for themselves, and that’s easy to do with locally grown, seasonal flowers. They’re always my favorite to design with, and I love that Gather and our local growers keep introducing me to varieties I haven’t seen before.”

Thank you for sharing your story and floral philosophy Karen! We love your eye for design and a gorgeous color story 🌼💐 Keep up with Karen 💗

It's Friday again, time to celebrate a local florist! This week, June aka 🌹 Here's more from June:“I have been practicing floral design professionally since 2018, when Katina Connaughton of SingleThread Farms offered me a position in the floral department. I quickly fell in love with design, and more importantly, the natural world. I’ve always felt a connection to nature, but I would definitely say I was majorly suffering from plant blindness. Learning to identify plants, see the seasons unfold, and admire the world around me on this level has been deeply life changing. It’s such a special experience to have a new love unfold in front of you— and made even more special by the fact that this particular love is all around me.

Sourcing locally, while not always possible, is a profoundly important practice to myself and everyone at SingleThread. Being in California we have a lot of opportunity to source local-ish, but with Gather we are able to ensure that not only are the materials local, but they’re cultivated with growing practices we can stand behind, and they’re grown by people we have come to really love. I love being able to meet a farmer in the wild, and say “oh my god, I bought your tulips last month!” And have a mutual moment of giddy appreciation for this community.”

Thank you for sharing your story and your beautiful words around the importance of local flowers. We love your work and are so happy our farms flowers end up in your designs!

Happy Meet the farmer Monday! This week, meet two wonderful farmers in the Santa Cruz Flower Hub: Charlotte and Bryan Kett of Frog and Feather Flowers in Watsonville, CA! 🌊 🌸 Here's more from them: “Frog & Feather Flowers is located on 1/4 acre in Watsonville, California and we are beginning our 5th growing season. We specialize in unique dahlia varieties and specialty wedding and event flowers. We are passionate about growing flowers the way they used to be grown in Watsonville. Not with temperature controlled greenhouses, but out in a field under the sun with careful tending and care. We use hand tools to dig and prep our beds and we are constantly feeding and nurturing our soil to create a healthy farm ecosystem. We are as passionate about the pollinators and birds as we are about the flowers. It is all connected and it is beautiful to be part of the seasonal cycles. We look forward to serving our local florists this coming season!”

Thank you for sharing, we love seeing Frog and Feather Flowers on the Santa Cruz Hub each week and knowing that they are coming from such an Earth-loving farm makes the blooms even more special! Keep up with Charlotte and Bryan 🌸 🐸

Happy Friday, our favorite day to celebrate local florists! Today, meet Angie of Flor de Mar in Santa Cruz, CA. 😊 Here's more from her:“My seven years in San Diego's flower scene came to an end with a challenging business closure. It was a forced reset, one that made me reevaluate everything. I knew I didn't want to return to the same way of working with flowers. My experience was valuable, but I craved a deeper connection and ways to express myself more artistically through flowers.

Life now in Santa Cruz has been just what my heart needed. I’ve been dreaming, rediscovering, and re-imagining ways to show up as a floral design business. Finding harmony has its challenges, but I am really enjoying the growing process!!

Right now, my favorite thing to do is spending time in the garden, experimenting with seasonal blooms, natural elements (rocks, shells, etc), and flowering with various handmade compotes and vessels. I am finding that the flower containers really paint a story and are an essential element in showcasing the magic :).

For me, finding Gather Flora was like finding a pot of gold!! It’s a collection of the best possible blooms, all in one place. They source locally, empower farmers, and care for the environment – a rarity in this fast-paced industry. My deepest hope is to see these values resonate throughout the floral industry. As floral designers, we can make conscious choices and educate our clients, fostering a more sustainable and meaningful connection with flowers.”

Thank you for the love Angie and thank you for sharing your story and your beautiful designs with the world! Keep up with Angie and Flor de Mar .designs 🐚 🌊 🌸

In short, it is a KIND mission that I love being part of!!”

On Gather Flora's Farms: 🧑‍🌾

Flower talk: 🌸
“Not my favorite, but most definitely the most special to me. This. flower is. called "Kantuta" and is a national symbol given its natural colors red, yellow and green, same colors of Bolivia's flag. Also. referred to as "Sacred Flower of the Inca", Kantutas remind me of my childhood.”

Happy Meet the Farmer Monday! 💐 Today we’d love for you to meet one of our PA hub farmers, Jenny Chantz of Merritt Meadows Flower farm in Fort Washington, PA! Here’s more from her:

“I’m in my 6 th growing season as a flower farmer and my 3 rd year as a Certified Floral Designer, CFD. My flowers are organically grown, and I held the certification for several years before dropping it last year.

It all started after listening to a podcast about growing cut flowers and then reading Erin Benzakein’s book on growing cut flowers. It sparked an interest to expand my vegetable garden to include cut flowers.

After almost 30 years in child welfare, a layoff gave me
more time and extra dollars in my pocket. In 2018, I signed up for the Floret online flower farming classes and planted hundreds of tulips, anemones, and ranunculus!

Each year I have expanded my plantingspace and now cultivate flowers and foliage on a little over a ½ acre. My business model includes seasonal subscriptions (like a CSA), a French Café, a corporate client, a grocery store/cooperative, small eventsand weddings, small group floral design classes, retail vase arrangements and bouquets and my latest addition, the PA Flower Hub!

Our small farm is tucked in a wooded suburban area in Fort Washington, PA Montgomery County. My business name is Merritt Meadows Flower Farm, LLC. Merritt is my maiden name, and my parents gave us the property in 1988.

Throughout my life, farming held my interest. I loved gardening and the idea of raising chickens and goats! In 2014, we added chickens to our suburban backyard! Currently, I’m content with 7 chickens, an amazingly smart and chicken-obsessed Border Collie, a not-so barnyard cat and our soon-to-be born grandson!

I never thought I would be a farmer, let alone a flower farmer or florist! I have to say that newly blooming flowers still take my breath away and the idea that someone would buy something I grew still away and the idea that someone would buy something I grew still
jazzes me!”

Thank you for sharing your story Jenny! Keep up with the farm and find their flowers on 🪻 Opening THIS WEEK! 🤩

Meet the Gather Flora Team!Introducing Karen, one of our resident flower people at the SF Flower Mart!

A customer turned employee, Karen joined the Gather crew in fall 2023. While pursuing her career in film/tv, Karen turned to flowers to escape the long hours in windowless edit bays. In making tiny desk arrangements, the amount of peace she experienced through the creative process convinced Karen to leap into the flower industry. Now, she spends mornings at the stall, studies floristry at CCSF, is the owner of her online business Bright Moments, and remains committed to sourcing exclusively local, sustainably grown flowers.

Say hello when you see her in the stall, she wants to meet you!

Favorite flower: Dahlia Rocco

Also loves: Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, Union Sacré wines, and watermelon Sour Patch Kids

It's Monday, and you know what that means... time to meet the farmer! With the PA Hub opening on MARCH 27th, we thought this would be a great opportunity to introduce some of the amazing East Coast farms using Gather Flora. Today, meet Meghan of Blue Truck Farm in Glenmoore, PA! Here's more from her - “In 2017 we bought a farm with the intention of starting a larger scale nursery for trees. In 2018 we started growing flowers for our wedding and that is where the flower farm began. I am most passionate about Dahlias and breeding them for new varieties. We grow over 7,000 in a season. Along with Dahlias we grow other annuals such as zinnas, sunflowers, celosia, amaranth, and many others.

Growing flowers has been a wonderful experience and has helped in connecting with the earth and watch as nature just knows what to do. It doesn't get much better than a warm summer evening walking the rows of flowers at the end of a long day with my dogs.”

Thank you so much Meghan for sharing Blue Truck Farm's story. We can't wait to see the beautiful dahlias from your farm this season on Gather Flora! Keep up with the farm

Happy Featured Florist Friday! Meet Ashley Beyer of Tinge Floral design in Salt Lake City, UT. 🏔💐Tinge is a floral design studio led by Ashley Beyer that specializes in weddings and events. Ashley embraces a unique point of view by letting color lead her design process as opposed to style or trend. She strives to create arrangements that are sophisticated and feminine while taking cues from the changing seasons and the natural world.

“My favorite seasons to work with flowers are the seasons in which I get to collect from the growers and spaces around me. We are super fortunate to have so many different communities of grower collectives in the Salt Lake area that love getting to share their bounty with florists. The little locally grown blooms are so much more interesting than anything you can buy wholesale. I really appreciate the little unique qualities of each stem and how the growing conditions and environment impact things like the coloring of the stem and the leaves. If there is some cool flower that's now a really cool pod and the growers just know some florist will love it, it's an unexpected texture I get to be excited about now every season it's back.”

Aren't these palettes just stunning? Thank you Ashley for sharing your vision and story behind Tinge Floral Studio! Keep up with Ashley and her work 😊

Happy Monday! This week, we’re gushing over the flowers and the mission behind our LA farm partner 🌸🐕 Here’s more from farmer Shannon…

“Flowerbox Studios & Farms was fashioned out of a day-dream to create a haven for bees, birds & lizards. We have been slowly transforming our tiny .26 of an acre, just outside of downtown Los Angeles, from a concrete jungle into a lush urban micro farm.

We began the transformation several times, but seriously began growing for sale in the winter of 2018.
For the safety of all living things, are a no spray farm plus we use all natural & organic practices.

We mainly grow scented garden roses and we also have an ever changing lineup of annuals including: stock, violas, cosmos, & snapdragons. There are also other perennials & greens like hellebores, boxwood & olive on our tiny urban-mini-micro-farm.

Throughout the 14 years we have lived on the property we also have added 14 trees, most of them citrus or fruit trees. We are pretty determined to find room for at least two more, what can I say, we like our fruit homegrown!

Our future plans include bee hives, a gathering space, owl boxes (there were two within feet of our windows the other night), possible cat “employees” bat boxes, and we are even hoping to find room for a few water-fowl, to help us control our bugs, fingers crossed.

A guaranteed minimum of 10% of our profits go towards dog rescues & shelter dogs. Currently we support: Outta the Cage Rescue, Frosted Faces Rescue, Golden Years Dog Sanctuary, Rebel Souls Rescue & our own rescues & fosters ourselves.”

We love it when a love for flowers intersects with a love for four legged friends 💗 thank you Shannon for sharing your story! Find Flowerbox blooms at .la this season and keep up with the farm 🌼🐕

Happy Meet the Farmer Monday! Today we are showcasing rose heaven aka Rose Story Farm, one of our amazing Los Angeles farms! 🌹“Rose Story Farm began in 1998, when we decided to try growing 1000 rose bushes on a half-acre of our lemon and avocado farm. We imagined an old-fashioned rose farm, with the radiant hues of European and pre-1950 American varieties in bloom across our 15-acre Carpinteria Valley farm. Our mission has been, from the very first day, to produce beautiful, fragrant, romantic roses in exquisite shapes and colors. We are dedicated to producing the highest quality roses in our gardens, and Rose Story Farm now grows 40,000 rose bushes, with over 160 varieties.

2023 marked the 25th anniversary of the farm! Little did we know how much joy and excitement the year would bring! April saw the publication of Danielle’s first book, ‘The Color of Roses: A Curated Spectrum of 300 Blooms’. Shortly thereafter, Martha Stewart asked her to help design a new rose garden on her property in Bedford, New York. She was then featured on the Roku television series, ‘Martha Gardens’, Episode 9, ‘Everything’s Coming up Roses’. And, if all of this was not excitement enough, we then welcomed hundreds of visitors back to the farm for the first time since the Thomas Fire (and subsequent mudflows) for our rose-centric educational tours!

Whether you are looking for fragrant old world garden roses for a special event or to add amazing rose plants to a new or existing rose garden, Rose Story Farm can help you create your very own rose story.”

Thank you to the team at Rose Story Farm for sharing this story, we are proud to work with such a beautiful farm through our Los Angeles location, and frankly, we want to live at Rose Story Farm! 😅 How beautiful are these blooms!? We can almost smell them through the screen. 😍

Keep up with Rose Story farm 🌹

Happy Featured Florist Friday, first day of March, and start to Women's History Month!
Today we are happy to be celebrating the beautiful work of Melissa Crawford of Violet & Aster 💐

Melissa is the owner and lead designer for Violet & Aster Floral Design based in Lafayette, CA.

Melissa’s fascination for flowers took root at a very young age while spending many days along her Great Grandmother and Grandfather in their gardens while her mom attended nursing school and her father worked at the local fire station. As a young adult her love for flowers grew and she took on the hobby of gardening with her Grandfather; him helping her start her first garden in their new home before his passing.

Melissa always knew she wanted to turn her passion into a career but the question was when. In 2020, Melissa was laid off her job as hospitality PR Director, and thus Violet & Aster was born. Violet & Aster was inspired by her two daughters’, Camryn & Reagan, birth month flowers.

When it comes to floristry Melissa is committed to foam free design and supporting and sourcing sustainable and locally grown flowers from surrounding farms and micro-flower farmers whenever possible.

“Thanks to Gather, who makes beautiful product accessible to designers like myself who are always looking for those unique and seasonal blooms.”

If Melissa isn’t flowering she’s usually tending to her tiny but mighty garden.

Thank you so much Melissa for sharing your story and your bountiful and elegant designs! Keep up with Violet and Aster at 💐

Have a great and (hopefully) flower filled weekend!

It’s narcissus season!! Let’s celebrate with some fun facts👇

☀️ The difference between a Daffodil and a Narcissus

Daffodils are a part of the Genus Narcissus, but not all Narcissus are Daffodils, sort of like how all squares are rectangles!

Daffodils are characterized by their trumpet shaped centers 🎺 around multiple petals while other narcissus might have ruffled centers or less distinct individual petals.

☀️Native origins

Narcissus are native to Africa, parts of Europe, and the Mediterranean. They grow very well in California’s mediterranean climate.

☀️Name history

Narcissus are said to be named for the myth of Narcissus as well as the ancient greek word ναρκῶ narkō meaning “to make numb” referring to the numbing properties of their toxic sap.

Daffodils were originally called “asphodel” and later a D was added and the name has evolved from there.

☀️Narcissus tip

After buying, give narcissus a fresh cut and place in warm water ALONE for 24 hours. This gives the stems a chance to expel any toxic sap before arranging with other flowers!

Happy narcissus season and happy Gathering! 💛☀️🌼

Happy Meet the Farmer Monday! Today we’re excited to share the beauty of Frogtown Flora located in Los Angeles, CA where Kathleen Ferguson and her daughter tend their lovely blooms ☀️ More from Kathleen below 👇

“Frogtown Flora came into bloom spring of 2022 in a petite but prolific community garden plot in Frogtown, and has since expanded to a generous size property in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. The additional space allows us to grow a nice selection of tried & true florals, but also experiment with growing environmentally appropriate CA natives and other unique drought tolerant species.

We grow flowers with the health of the planet and customers in mind. Our locally grown flowers never see the inside of a plane, and are grown herbicide & pesticide-free. We implement regenerative farming practices to support the ecological health of native wildlife and beneficial pollinators.

This “nature first” approach encourages biodiversity, water conservation, soil health, and all while producing beautiful blooms”

We love Frogtown Flora’s commitment to sustainable practices and their nature first ideals! Find their products at our Los Angeles stall this season and keep up with Kathleen and Frogtown Flora 🌼

We are so happy to share the work of Los Angeles based designer, Hope Sword of Pigsty for this week's Featured Florist Friday 🌸 Here's more from her:“As a small studio of floral creatives, we focus on events and weddings that feel authentically us.

Our ethos is natural, bold, wild, thoughtful, and allows the floral design to blend with the story. We use shape, color, and texture as an expression of the natural world. We love to learn about our clients to imagine how flowers will be woven into the day. Finding the right balance of statement and subtlety is our bread and butter.”

Hope originally began flowering in Colorado but has found her home in Southern California among the poppies and wild cucumber. She loves to travel for flowers and is grateful for the clients and planners who have brought her to places like Park City, UT, Oregon, Rhode Island, Mexico, Anguilla & hopefully even further.

How we Gather: “March to October in California really delivers on the wild overgrown hillside product. We love to use found or foraged things to make arrangements distinct: spring mustard seed, locally grown dahlias, autumnal foliage, neighborhood pine branches.

Using Gather Flora has made the extra mile that much shorter, allowing us to find and connect with growers, local farms and sometimes backyard producers to find perfect little stems to make arrangements more special. We love how buying a bunch of garden roses downtown has led us to meet farmers like Rose Lane Farms, Boomtown Flower Co, Golden Heron and more. It helps ground and inspire us to the seasonality and sanctity of this work.”

For more beautifully curated designs, follow 💐

Happy Meet the Farmer Monday, here's a little early-week boost of cuteness! This week we're excited to be featuring Jess, her adorable Great Pyrenees, Max, and their family homestead, Gracehope Farm in San Jose, CA. Here's some more from her! 💐“Hi! I’m Jess and I named our farm after my daughters, Grace and Hope. I am obsessed with growing flowers and love to share them with other flower enthusiasts. My family and I have been restoring a 100 year old farmhouse and surrounding land, creating a harmonious homestead environment. Our Great Pyrenees dog, Max, guards both the chickens from predators and the flower fields from deer. He is an essential worker at our farm. 🐶

I enjoy supplying florists with exquisite blooms and I also offer bouquet subscriptions to flower lovers in the South Bay. Our farm is in the north eastern hills above San Jose.

Thank you, Gather Flora, for connecting small farms like mine with florists who support local flowers! 🌷”
