🌆If you’re visiting the exhibition on its final day, join us Friday at 5:30PM across the street in the War Memorial Veterans Building for Constitutional Conversations, a town hall discussion series moderated by Ralph Re*****on, Director of Cultural Affairs, and Paul Henderson, Executive Director of the San Francisco Department of Police Accountability. The first session of this new series will focus on Freedom of Expression.

🌱When Unearthed Sights Collide is the inaugural exhibition for SFAC Galleries’ new mentorship-fellowship program, where two emerging artists work closely with a selected curator for eight months on professional development and the commissioning of new work for an exhibition in the SFAC Main Gallery.

Join us at 5:30pm for an artist talk by William Rhodes, whose work is included in our current exhibition Annex on Limitation, curated by Jane Sheehan.
Rhodes received a BA in Furniture Building and Design from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a MFA from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. His work has been collected by institutions including the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. He has served as both instructor and more recently as Intergenerational Program Director at Bayview Services. Rhodes also dedicates part of his time to art education, collaborating with schools and Senior Centers in San Francisco, South Africa, Italy and Egypt. He is the co-founder of the 3.9 Art Collective.

Annex on Limitation presents the work of two artists who have altered components of their authored identities. Their work exacts a defiant effort to live with limitation on their own terms. This is adaptation, restoration, and the building upon existing material. Here, chaos and control converse as one 🔑
Join us for the opening reception, Thursday Aug. 22, 5-7pm at SFAC Main Gallery, featuring brief remarks from Ho and Sheehan at 5:30, and join Rhodes on Aug. 28, 5pm for an artist talk.

The SFAC Galleries and SF Recreation and Parks: 2024 India Basin Artist in Residence RFQ deadline has been EXTENDED to June 14th!
The San Francisco Arts Commission invites artists to submit qualifications for the 2024 India Basin Artist in Residency.
The RFQ aims to identify two San Francisco-based artists to research and engage with the India Basin Waterfront Park Project (900 Innes Avenue) and India Basin Shoreline Park (Hunters Point Blvd & Hawes Street, 950 Galvez Avenue) and communities in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood and then use that research to develop new work(s).
The total honorarium for each artist is $40,000. The production budget for each artist is $15,000.
Deadline to submit qualifications: June 14, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. PST
