Goodwill San Francisco Bay is so grateful to receive the ongoing support and generosity of the former mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown.
In June, we received a remarkable assortment of fashion items from Brown. Among these were custom-tailored suits, stylish dress shoes, and luxury designer items. Our dedicated e-commerce team listed 46 donated items on the Goodwill eBay page for sale.
This generous contribution has helped enhance critical funding toward our Mission of providing no-cost job training and career services to our neighbors in need of a second chance.
Thank you, Mr. Willie Brown, for a successful second round of donations!

Today, as we honor Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
As a Veteran Engagement Specialist at Goodwill, Cecilia M. is leveraging her lived experiences as a veteran and extensive knowledge of San Francisco's social service community to help others. She was recently honored with a Certificate of Honor from San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors for her career-long dedication to community service. "Thanks to you, so many of these community members today are employed, housed, and living a better healthy, or on the road to recovery and stability," the Board stated. Cecilia's story is a testament to the transformative power of second chances and the impact of Goodwill's programs on individual lives.
Goodwill’s VETS program connects veterans and their spouses to training, job placement, and access to additional support throughout San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Contra Costa, Solano, and Marin Counties. Whether you are looking for a job, a new career, or would like to have a higher income, Goodwill SF Bay’s VETS. program is here to help.

In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI), Goodwill SF Bay is proud to share the inspiring journey of Jonathan “JT” Toledo, our Director of Operations.
JT grew up in the Bay Area with a rich Filipino and Mexican heritage, which he credits for helping him get to where he is today. That journey also included enrollment in our job readiness program and a second chance at gainful employment after becoming involved in the justice system.
We believe people can and do change their lives. JT took the opportunities offered by Goodwill SF Bay and, through dedication and resilience, used them to transform his life.
Watch the video below to hear JT tell his story.

This weekend, I went camping with my daughters and their friend. While exploring tide pools on the California coast, I felt an immense sense of gratitude for our beautiful planet and for the job that I do.
You’ve all seen companies claiming to sell products that are “green”, “sustainable”, “biodegradable” “recycled”, “non-toxic”, “carbon neutral” etc., but did you know that the greenest product is the one that already exists? In almost all cases, buying secondhand — versus buying new—is the best type of shopping we can do for the environment.
For over a hundred years, Goodwill SF Bay has provided second chances to people, but also to the donated goods we manage. Our community and environment rely on Goodwill to provide convenient ways to donate items you no longer need and find them a second life. By reselling donated products not only do we help people avoid buying new, but we also preserve the embodied energy and resources that were used to make those donated goods in the first place. In fact, did you know that 45% of global GHG emissions come solely from the production of new products? Thrifting helps slow the rate of new production, reducing a product’s impact on the climate and conserving our precious natural resources.
