I have been searching for a long time for the right vintage typewriter… and I finally found it! This gorgeous Lettera 32 is 51 years old and in stunning original condition. I couldn’t be more stoked.

Typewriting for me is a form of meditative presence - not dissimilar to the patience and trust required for baking bread. I love the punctuated sounds, the intentionality, the room for errors, and the individuality of each machine. Writing longhand or on a typewriter both enable me to be much more in the moment. I see lots more poetry/photography pairings in my future.

Big thanks to Wessel at Working Typewriters in the Netherlands for finding and reviving such a beautiful machine for me.

I typed this on my friend Christopher’s 1940s Royal Varsity (on luxurious which he, of course, has stacked right there) as a gift for him during a delightfully warm and sweet this weekend. So lucky for that evening. And now I think I need to get myself a …

It’s going to be an unseasonably hot last day of school and start to the summer vacation… I’m really looking forward to some rare warm balmy nights this weekend!

Transitions always get me. How has an entire school year gone by? How fast does time really go? How much more can I possibly love my daughter when I love her more every day? Rolling through all these feelings (and so many more) and just being present with them as they come.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Love.

My absolute ultimate cannot.be.beat favorite delicious way to spend a day.

And yes it magically sometimes really looks like exactly that: a tiny beach and moonrise and fog and fire and crashing waves and purple sky and flying sparks and all.

About two second after this the kids started laughing and our dear friends went back to chitchatting and life was poignant and perfect. This little slice of time is permanently etched into my soul.

This has been a whirlwind! So many people signed up for my 2022 portrait project. I snapped this quick BTS photo while setting up for my full shooting slate today.

Shooting the entire thing with my Leica Q2 📸 has been a true pleasure. It’s a throwback to what photography was for me when I started with a vintage Minolta decades ago… tactile, tangible, beautiful and intimately personal. This camera isn’t new to me, but every time I pick it up I revel in just how much I love it.

I’ll be wrapping this project up next week and I’m sending big thanks to everyone who’s participated so far. Before I close this post, I want to say one more time that I am saving the last few spots for underrepresented / BIPOC / trans / nonbinary / typically-excluded / LGBTQIA / marginalized folx. Know someone? Is that you? Sign the heck up! www.lisawiseman.com/2022 (link in bio👆🏽)

Things I’m grateful for, a daily practice.

Walking through the woods in the pouring rain at sunset. If you close your eyes, you can smell the wet redwoods and hear the muted resonant rainy quiet.

I’m also grateful for warm dry feet :)

Things I’m grateful for, a daily practice.

Today and every day I am exceptionally grateful to have enough to eat and clean water to drink.

Approximately 1 in 4 households in this prosperous country of ours experience food insecurity: a lack of consistent and/or reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable nutritious food. Minority households are disproportionately affected. Imagine 4 kids sitting together and one of them doesn’t know if they’ll get a next meal.

Last night I had the privilege of working at the headquarters (usually I’m at offsite pop-up locations or working with other hunger/poverty related organizations like SVDP and ) and their capabilities were an amazing sight to see. They distribute 80 million (!) pounds of food annually which is up from about 40 million pounds pre-Covid, and that is only in the Bay Area.

I strongly urge you to consider getting involved with your local food bank or hunger/poverty assistance organization. Make efforts in your own life to effect real change against systemic inequities. Contribute generous donations if you can. And if you’re lucky enough to not experience food insecurity, never ever ever taking for granted having enough to eat.

Deciding to upgrade my iPhone for cinematic mode was very worth it. This is just a quick little shot (and frankly not even the best example) but I’m loving it and playing around with it nonstop.
