Bird Exhibit Opening
Bird is the word out on Alcatraz as the ribbon was cut for the new, exciting Birds in a Changing Climate exhibit 🐦🌊🐥🎉 ! This new installation showcases the lesser-known inhabitants of the former prison: the thousands of waterbirds that live and nest there. Birds in a Changing Climate is a multi-media interpretive display created by Golden Gate National Recreation Area staff that explores the island’s different species of birds and the biologists that study to protect them as our planet is impacted by our changing climate. The exhibit is located in the back of the New Industries Building on Alcatraz, to get your tickets out to Alcatraz, please visit parksconservancy.org/escape-to-alcatraz or nps.gov/goga.

Beach Wheelchairs in the GGNRA
#DisabilityPrideMonth is celebrated every July to commemorate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. The @ParksConservancy, @GoldenGateNPS, and @PresidioSF are highlighting one of the many accessibility initiatives in our parks that ensure our public lands are usable by folks of all abilities: the beach wheelchair! Our parks have beach wheelchairs available at Crissy Field, Stinson Beach, Muir Beach, Rodeo Beach, Baker Beach, and Ocean Beach. To request a beach wheelchair and learn more about locations, please visit: https://www.parksconservancy.org/external/request-beach-wheelchair?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=beach_wheelchair&utm_content=beach_wheelchair_demo_main_feed_link_073124 Video description: Upbeat music playing in the background. A Parks Conservancy staff member and an NPS staff member stand on Crissy Field East Beach beside a beach wheelchair waving at the camera. Text reads: “How to request and access our beach wheelchairs.” Video cuts to a laptop opening. Text reads: “First, submit your request online! **At least 5 days in advance.” Then video shows a screen record of the “Beach Wheelchairs” webpage, then a large clicker clicks “Email us.” The video then shows the “Your Message” box on the email request form, a message is typed: “I’d like to request a beach wheelchair on 8/1 at Crissy Beach at 3pm please :). Then, the video cuts to a panning shot of East Beach at Crissy Beach with the text “Our staff will email you to confirm your date.” The shot spins to the two staff members displaying the beach wheelchair lockers with the text: “Then it’s time to head to your locker location.” Video then shows park ranger unlocking the locker with text: “You will receive a code to unlock the locker.” Then the staff members pull the beach wheelchair out of the locker. Text reads “The beach wheelchair!” The staff members then re-lock the locker with the text reading:

The Parks Conservancy partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside @bgc_coastside this week to throw an amazing, nature-themed field day for a group of 60 fourth and fifth graders. Each activity offered bilingual programming and a fun naturalist twist, like the game “Survive or Thrive,” where students learned how climate and human impact can help or hurt our native endangered species. Roars of laughter could be heard in all directions, along with the excited sounds of our young, future environmental leaders learning more about the ecosystems they inhabit. NPS in the Pride Parade
Naomi Torres was a part of the first cohort of National Park Service rangers who were approved to march in the San Francisco Pride Parade in 1993. Two years later, rangers with the National Park Service were permitted to march in the Pride Parade in their iconic uniforms. Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the Parks Conservancy, and Presidio of San Francisco are committed to telling the history of America in all its diversity and complexity and making all feel welcome and represented in our parks. The Pride Parade is one of many important events that connect GGNRA employees, partners, and volunteers to our community. Today, as our rangers continue to march proudly in the Pride Parade, we take a moment of reflection and gratitude as Naomi shares her story. We hope to see you at the parade and happy Pride!

Why do we celebrate Pride in the parks?
#HappyPride 🏳️‍🌈💚🏳️‍⚧️! Why do we celebrate Pride in the parks? We’re glad you asked! Please enjoy these reflections on Pride in the parks from GGNRA staff and visitors. The Parks Conservancy, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and Presidio of San Francisco are proud to create safe and celebratory spaces on our public lands for folks of all identities. Have a joyous Pride weekend!

Looking for a place to get away from it all, right in the heart of the city? Look no further than Black Point historic gardens at Fort Mason. Abandoned for over 50 years, the gardens were nearly lost to time until reopening in 2021. Now, they once again buzz with life as staff, volunteers, and community members reimagine and rebuild the historic terrace gardens. On any given day, you’re bound to see beautiful blooming flowers, birds chirping, and busy bees collecting nectar. The remarkable, ongoing transformation of the gardens wouldn’t be possible without the support of sustaining members of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Use the link below to become a Golden Gate Keeper today and support our commitment to preserving and protecting our national parks for all. With your support, places like Black Point historic gardens will continue to nourish ecosystems of living creatures—plants, animals, and human communities—and help us realize a future-forward vision of the parks as climate resilient places for all. https://www.parksconservancy.org/events?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=events_page&utm_content=watercoloring_main_feed_link_062624 . .
