27 years ago TODAY, March 21st, 1996, a group of artists and activists secured the lease on 2050 Bryant Street in San Francisco and created CELLspace. The space served artists of all kinds with creative space in a variety of artistic disciplines and provided a space for countless communities to celebrate culture, art, activism, education and the sacred. It was an inspirational 17 year run from 1996 until 2012.

Come by, say hi, paint a planet, have a drink, eat some food, and get yerself back down on Bryant St.!

A PLACE WORTH SAVING 12/14/2022

Greetings community art space allies,
Writing to ask your support for an important East Bay community center that has been around since 2011. PLACE recently was visited by the City of Oakland which identified numerous code violations that need to be corrected for them to continue serving the public with maker spaces and educational workshops and classes at their community art and garden community center. They need help to pay for both structural improvements as well as some ongoing monthly support to cover the gap in earned income due to the decreased activity of programming during the next 9-12 months of making the upgrades. Please consider making either an ongoing monthly contribution or a single donation to support these necessary improvements, as well as sharing the fundraiser to friends.

PLACE (People Linking Art Community & Ecology) is creating community, workshops, classes, events and educational videos | Patreon 05/19/2020

A Giving Tuesday REQUEST for a non-profit community art and ecology center PLACE. This month is their 9th anniversary and the center has suffered 75% loss of income since the shelter-in-place order was issued. They did receive a 45% rent reduction for April and May, but still have over $3000 in monthly expenses. They had savings to cover 2 months of this deficit, but will run out soon if we do not receive some support. Since the Shelter-In-Place order was recently extended and they did not receive any pandemic relief from the SBA or other grants they applied for, they are asking for our extended community to help during this crucial time. Instead of a CSA, they are asking friends to please participate in a CSS, or Community Supported Space.

They have launched https://www.patreon.com/placecommunity to help grow a network of patrons to support their work. Despite being closed to the public, PLACE has been growing herbs, making medicines and distributing food and hygiene kits to seniors and immuno-compromised neighbors in our houseless communities. Additionally they are moving our educational classes to an online platform to continue spreading knowledge of resiliency, regeneration, and urban gardening.

Please consider becoming a monthly supporter thru Patreon, or consider teaching a class or participating in an online event with them. If interested in proposing an event or class, please go here- https://www.place.community/propose

If a one time donation is all you can do, you can either PayPal ([email protected]) or Venmo (-community). Thank you so much for sharing this around and pitching in how you are able.
