For this beautiful painting we museum hinge floated it to a warm white mat with 1" Spacers.
We took 3" x 3/4" White Oak material and ripped milled it into a round top profile. We then stained it with grey wash and rubbed in white wax to emphasize the grain.

Part of the challenge was the customer wanted us to reverse engineer a previous framing job they had done many years ago. They were quite pleased with the end result.

 

The Heart of Rock and Roll is still Beating,
In Larkspur.

This was a fun Playbill collage we did for a client that went to the Huey Lewis Jukebox Musical, Heart of Rock and Roll.

This job features a thin but very strong welded aluminum closed corner frame.

Grey wash walnut Dutch Wedge frame. The cream and grey colors of the double mat help accentuate the pastel qualities of the art.

We framed this cool plaster cast with a graphite grey walnut frame and black mat board and spacers.
The Museum Glazing was an integral part of this design. When doing "dark" shadowboxes, the glazing can become like a mirror. Not only does the Museum Acrylic counteract the reflective glare, it is also static free. In time boys of dust may fall off the plaster, but the static free nature of the glazing will keep that dust from sticking to the acrylic.

This piece has been in my family since the 60's.
Suffice it to say it was an underappreciated piece of art that I inherited.
It had this cheap "starving artist" frame in it.
That's when the artist nails four pained wood slats to the sides of the canvas and calls it a day.
I saw it's inner potential and brought it into the shop to give it a mid-century modern makeover. The ebony knife edge moulding is a favorite of mine and it harmonizes perfectly with the thistle subject matter.
When it was finished I showed it to my sister and she instantly regretted suggesting it belonged in the trash
It just goes to show, sometimes it takes a great frame to bring out the true beauty in an underappreciated piece of art.
