Hey everyone! My name is Jenica and I am hella excited for Lavender Phoenix's 20th Anniversary this upcoming August. LavNix has meant the world to me. When I was a summer organizer that last year we were APIENC, I was really moved by the way I was radically welcomed, both me and my cohort, into this world of organizing. I really found my power in this work, and I came to learn so much more about the generations before me that made this work as q***r and trans API people possible. And I couldn't have done any of that without the really beautiful connections I've made throughout my time here. My connections with my comrades helps me really ground in the struggles and joy of this work. And that's why I really want to personally invite you to join us for Lavender Phoenix's 20th Anniversary this August 24th and help us Light the Way! Hi everyone! My name is Clara and I'm really looking forward to Lavender Phoenix's 20th Anniversary. Lavender Phoenix has been one of those rare places where I can connect with other API folks around shared aspects of our history without leaving my transness at the door. And now, in this moment of political unease, it's more important than ever for me to resist that impulse to become a hermit and to instead bring my full, authentic self to connect with all of y'all. So to that end, I want to personally invite you to join us on August 24th for our 20th anniversary and help us ‘Light the Way!’ Will you come connect with Clara at our 20th Anniversary? Tickets are available at bit.ly/lavnixanniversary, or the link in our bio! 📅WHEN: Saturday, August 24th, 4pm-7pm (program begins at 4:30) 🌐WHERE: Humanist Hall (390 27th St., Oakland, CA 94612) 🎫TICKETS: Purchase tickets to RSVP at the link in our bio! “We also wanted to, in spite of what was going on live. so we lived. we loved, we clubbed, we danced.” Tune into the wisdom of our movement elder, Cesar Cadabes, as he reflects on his work and survival during the 90’s HIV/AIDs epidemic that claimed the lives of so many of our trans and q***r elders. He, along with more than 80 QTAPI movement elders, have shared their oral hstories—now available for you on our Dragon Fruit Museum website. Visit the Museum at dragonfruitproject.org to hear the rest of Cadabes’ story! The link is also available on our website. Let’s lean on the lessons of the past to build a future for all of us—trans and q***r API people— together. This reel was made by Finn, a member of Comm Comm—Lavender Phoenix’s Communications Committee! Special shout out to Sammie Ablaza Wills and Sine Hwang Jensen for all of their hard work in transcribing these interviews, so they can accessibly live in our digital age. And Mioi Hanaoka for revamping our dragonfruit website. Thank you, thank you! Video transcript: You had to be involved. I don’t know, I just—you couldn’t sit on the sides while there were people dying. There was fear, but there was also a sense of community in a weird way where not only wanted to respond. We also wanted to, in spite of what was going on live. so we lived. we loved, we clubbed, we danced. you know, even though you know we were seriously serious about responding to this epidemic. We sought to do this work in a way that was dynamic, that was appropriate, that was creative. Even though you think about HIV and AIDs, there was some joy and doing this community work. And the way that people respond to us was incredible. #LavNix #KnowOurHistory #QTAPI #QTAPIWeek #API #AAPI #Asian #PacificIslander #Q***r #Trans

“When I got involved in the gay movement, it was white! And I said, what happened to everybody? The same city, what happened?” Listen to the wisdom of our q***r API movement elder, Trinity Ordona, who shares her search for community in the 90’s, and how relationships were essential in her organizing. Ordona, along with 80 QTAPI movement elders, have shared their oral histories—now available for you on our Dragon Fruit Museum website! Visit the Museum at dragonfruitproject.org to hear the rest of Ordona’s reflection. The link is also available on our website. Let’s lean on the lessons of the past to build a future for all of us—trans and q***r API people—together. This reel was made by Abby, a member of Comm Comm—Lavender Phoenix’s Communications Committee!! Special shout out to Sammie Ablaza Wills and Sine Hwang Jensen for all of their hard work in transcribing these interviews, so they can accessibly live in our digital age. And Mioi Hanaoka for revamping our Dragon Fruit Museum website. Thank you, thank you! Video transcript: When I got involved in the gay movement, it was white! And I said, what happened to everybody? The same city, what happened? everyone was gone… where are they? So I basically went on a search to find people. I think that form of organizing is still foundational. We have to remember that phones and the Internet are means to an end, but they are not the end in and of itself. It’s like if you don’t think about the other person on the other end of the phone or chat line that’s who you’re talking to. It’s not that we can’t really have either mean anyway, I only say that because I think that still absolutely necessary is your relationships with people. #LavNix #KnowOurHistory #QTAPI #QTAPIWeek #API #AAPI #Asian #PacificIslander #Q***r #Trans
