🎓 To our 2024 Summer Organizers: CONGRATULATIONS! 🎓

This summer, the 15th annual cohort of Summer Organizers joined us to grow and transform. 🌲

They helped prepare festivities for our 20th anniversary, chronicled our histories through interviews with our community, created powerful cultural work encapsulating our stories and experiences, and more! ✨

Through their projects and in-depth trainings, they also learned new lessons in asking for help, giving and receiving compassionate feedback, building lifelong connections, and doing the exciting and often difficult work of organizing in a sustainable way.

Please send them some love and help send them to the next part of their journeys! ☺️

Thanks to everyone who joined us for graduation, thank you to SOPs for the dedication and the joy they brought to LavNix this summer, and thank you to and .ca for hosting our SOPs this summer too!

✊ RISE UP, RESIST! NO KILLER COPS OR JAILS! ❌👮‍♂️

💢 THE WHOLE DAMN SYSTEM IS GUILTY AS HELL ‼️

🏳️‍⚧️Last Friday, we turned up at to call for CEASEFIRE NOW & CARE NOT COPS. For this historic 10th Annual Trans API Contingent, LavNix’s comrades from , , , , , , , ***rcrescent , and joined us in marching for our liberation!

🇵🇸❌👮‍♂️While the IDF raises rainbow flags to justify their genocide in Palestine, we march to demand a Ceasefire Now. While the City of San Francisco is declared a sanctuary for trans people, we march to demand our city officials deliver true Care, Not Cops.

We will keep building stronger networks of organizations that resist the powers who only aim to hurt us. We refuse to have our resources and lives continuously robbed by the IDF and SFPD. We honor our history of Pride as a Riot! Our trans and q***r community rejects these blatant forms of pinkwashing and we march for the care we know this world deserves!

❤️‍🔥Thank you to our organizers who fiercely led us in our march & to our community partners who joined us for this historic contingent. If we are to fight for a better world, we must ORGANIZE.

✊ Rest in Power Banko Brown.

Today, we honor Banko Brown. Banko was a 24-year old Black trans man & community activist who was shot and killed over $14 by a Walgreens security guard on this date a year ago.

Banko died because the Mayor prioritizes maximizing profits more than she does meeting the fundamental needs of the people of San Francisco. From armed security at retail stores to SFPD, the Mayor's solutions to safety only rob San Franciscans of their lives & dignity.

🫂 A safe city protects people, not profits. In a safe city we take care of EVERYONE and invest in community-based approaches to housing, education, healthcare, & safety. These approaches continue to prove successful and life-saving, while the police and armed security aggravate poverty & violence at every turn.

🚨 From excessive force, weaponry, and neglect, police forces keep killing Black and brown q***r youth. In memory of Banko Brown, and all those others harmed by police violence, we will not allow SFPD to receive funding without consequence.

Banko's life MATTERED, and in remembrance of his life, we demand care, not cops.

📸 Image description: In a circular paper frame, there is a photo of Banko Brown. Banko is slightly smiling, wearing a yellow hat and top. White text highlighted in black surrounds the frame, reading: "Rest in Power Banko Brown". The background is purple and textured, with an illustration of purple flowers with green leaves and stems.

🌊 "I want to honor the grief I feel, the grief we feel, together.

I think for me, honoring it looks like building a world where you can call for help & we come running. I think for me, honoring it looks like walking towards a group of people & trusting them enough, trusting yourself enough to grieve collectively."

"I think honoring it looks like being here right now, together." - E, Healing Justice Core Member. 🫀

This weekend, 45 LavNix members & staff gathered in-person & online for our annual Member Assembly! 🌅

Over nourishing meals from , our Core member-leaders led us in exploring the grief of the last few months. We connected in care pods, & asked ourselves what it would take to organize with our full-selves in tow.

We closed by hearing from members who planned the “Care Not Cops” campaign to win back the resources our folks in San Francisco truly need to thrive! One of our leaders M shared: "This campaign reminds me that even when it's hard, we can demand alternatives that prioritize compassion and care." ✊

As we launch into a bold campaign season & help fight to end the US-backed genocide unfolding in Gaza, may we remember this time—the depth of our connections, the hope we help each other feel—& allow it to anchor us. ⚓

🏠: thank you to for hosting us!

As trans and q***r people, we know very intimately the harm that the police enact on our communities. Mayor London Breed and the SFPD continue to invest in policing in OUR name, telling the story that both q***r people and API people need MORE police. Together, we can combat these imposed narratives and assert OUR story -- that we demand CARE NOT COPS.

Join Lavender Phoenix and Bay Area Q***r Zine Fest for a free zine-making workshop! No experience needed. We’ll reflect on the radical expansiveness of zines and have an open discussion on the experience of being policed. We will create powerful art pieces for a collective zine in the theme of the Care Not Cops campaign. By using art and zines as a form of resistance, we organize against institutions and to inspire a future where trans folks are protected, loved, and nourished!!

👥 WHO: All are welcome, and we will be centering and uplifting the voices of trans and q***r BIPOC in the SF Bay Area who have been directly impacted by policing (including prison and psychiatric incarceration, deportation, street sweeps, etc).

❤️‍🩹❌👮‍♀️ CARE NOT COPS! Today marks the official launch for Lavender Phoenix's Care Not Cops campaign. We call on the community to join us in winning back the resources San Francisco needs to survive and thrive!

Ever since 2004, Lavender Phoenix has built grassroots transgender and q***r Asian and Pacific Islander power in the San Francisco Bay Area. As systems continue to fail us, our work has ALWAYS been about the safety of our communities. However, after distributing hundreds of safety kits & leading a powerful contingent last June during Pride, the people in power voted on yet another budget that funded the same institutions that hurt our people and steal money from our communities.

💰 The cops are ROBBING us. We demand the Mayor redirect 50% of the SFPD budget towards true solutions for San Francisco residents to survive & thrive.

🫂 In a safe city, we take care of EVERYONE. We demand the Mayor restore $400 million from the SFPD budget to meet the fundamental needs of the people of San Francisco!

In the coming months, we will continue to report back on campaign updates and announce upcoming workshops and trainings (spoiler alert: zine workshop & de-escalation training coming soon)!

📄✊ Right now, we ask that our community fill out our petition at bit.ly/CNCPetition to assert our demands to Mayor London Breed & share this post to spread word about the Care Not Cops campaign!

From PALESTINE to the PHILIPPINES — STOP the US WAR MACHINE! 🇵🇸✊🏽

Today, the Asians for a Liberated Palestine contingent marched with to and his liberatory legacy. 💖 We were honored to join our comrades from , , , & more in the streets.

We’re grateful to APTP for this chance to start 2024 in the spirit of Dr. King’s fierce, loving commitment to the fight for ALL of our freedom, EVERYWHERE. This year, we continue to struggle for a free Palestine. We face critical battles to win budgets in Oakland and San Francisco that invest in life, not cops. 🌱

This day is a reminder that none of our communities are alone in these fights. Just as Dr. King struggled to end the American wars in Vietnam & Southeast Asia, we will continue to combat the racism, materialism, militarism he saw at the heart of violence. We’ll do so everywhere they appear. We’ll continue to organize, strategize, and keep each other safe, as we build the “person-oriented society” he dreamed of and dedicated his life to. 💛

🚨 LavNix’s 2023 In Review! 🚨

We began last year by grieving the shootings in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay. Now, less than a year later, we continue to wake up each and every day in the shadow of mass death as our government funds the genocide, displacement, imprisonment, and colonization of Palestinians.

This year, a sacred duty we hold as organizers has grown clearer than ever—to give our people real, concrete reasons to feel hopeful. 🌲

As we face a pivotal year in the struggle against the life-swallowing status quo of rising fascism, militarism, transphobia, and more: Lavender Phoenix staff and members will hold our communities with love and rigor. 🌿

Send some love to LavNix’s Core Committee! ✊❤️‍🔥

Core Committee was founded 6 years ago as a space for members and staff to lead the organization, together. With representatives from all 6 LavNix Committees, Core helps us ensure every part of LavNix is rooted in shared values and a transformative vision for the future.❣️

Last week, we gathered at our annual retreat to dive deeply into that work. We situated our current work in the context of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. We located each of our roles in our campaigns for 2024. We affirmed our commitment to each other & our people, even when it’s hard, by welcoming our fears & reminding each other of our resources. 🌊

Core members make a deep commitment to the organization, and to each other. In Core, we refuse to turn away from each other, even when the work gets hard. We know the path to our freedom needs each of us, fully present. Will you join us in celebrating and loving on our Core members? ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Q***r, Trans, Asians and Pacific Islanders

APIENC is a grassroots organization in the Bay Area building q***r, trans, and non-binary Asian and Pacific Islander power to amplify our voices and increase the visibility of our community. Through organizing, we inspire and train leaders, establish intergenerational connections, and document and disseminate our histories. We support QTAPIs emotionally, socially, and politically to get free.

APIENC was started in 2004, as a response to a 6,000 person anti-marriage equality rally held by Chinese Christian leaders. APIENC, previously called Asian Pacific American Coalition for Equality (APACE) and then Asian Equality, and then “API Equality – Northern California,” was originally a national ad hoc coalition of LGBTQ API people and our allies to educate, organize and advocate with and for LGBTQ API community members. Our inception as an organization came out of a specific moment in time–a time in which our community wanted to feel safe, affirmed, and validated in our homes, with our families, and in our bodies. In the 15 years since then, that need has not changed, but our organization has used a range of strategy and programs to meet the diversity of experiences within the QTAPI community in the Bay Area, and nationally.

Currently, our work is led by young, trans and non-binary API people, for the larger q***r and trans API community in the bay area. We hope you’ll join us
