At ISR, the ultimate goal for our students is for them to be safer near water by being skilled to manage the aquatic environment independently. To get to that point, they need to learn in a controlled, positive, and SAFE way. Here’s more about how ISR lessons are designed to keep your child safe:
💦 Prior to beginning lessons, your child's medical & developmental history is reviewed by a team of nurses as part of our National registration process. If need be, this team will issue specific protocols and directives to your child's Instructor to customize their lessons to meet their unique needs.
💦Once lessons begin, establishing breath control is the ISR Instructor’s #1 priority. Even after your child is fully skilled, the student is not submerged for more than 7 seconds in lessons.
💦A review of your child's daily routine is performed before each lesson to help the Instructor adjust the lesson to maximize the learning experience. The instructor will also monitor your child for fatigue as well as keep tabs on their physical & psychological well being.
In a nutshell, safety is kind of a big deal for us 😉 Have questions? Learn more at www.infantswim.com 💙

“But isn’t letting your baby cry in the water traumatizing to them? “
“I won’t get survival swim lessons for my child because I can’t watch my baby cry.”
The real of this is that babies are going to cry. It’s how they communicate. They do it when they are mad, sad, not sure what you want them to do, hungry, when they have soiled themselves and yes, when they are scared too.
Toddlers have separation anxiety as a normal phase of development and will scream and cry if you leave them with anyone, regardless of if that person is in water or not.
Just because your baby may cry during (usually only the initial few sessions of) survival swim lessons (they would cry during any lessons), it does not mean that they are being traumatized. It means that they are being a normal, baby human.
Reputable survival swim instructors know how to teach your children without traumatizing them. They are trained not only in teaching water survival techniques but also in phsychology of learning and child development. They know the stages and phases and what kids can and can’t do at specific ages. They know how to teach each age and stage appropriately. Trust them.
Take it from a momma who knows what real trauma is and wishes she could hear her child cry just one more time….
Drowning is the most likely reason a child under 5 in the United States will die. You wanna talk trauma? THAT is trauma.

Drowning knows NO season!
Please find a local ISR Instructor near you!
It is a common misconception that swim lessons should occur in the Summer months because sadly, drowning knows no season. Many ISR Instructors offer lessons throughout the year to be able to reach as many children as possible, and there is truly no bad time to learn 💙
Many parents worry their child will forget, but the skills are taught in a way that is similar to the way we learn to walk or ride a bike. This means that as long as they return for a few Maintenance/Refresher lessons with their Instructor every 3-6 months, their skills will not get rusty as their body grows and changes.
Find more information about ISR at www.infantswim.com and find your nearest Certified Instructor by putting your zip code into the locator tool. Each instructor manages their own schedule and location, so you can reach out to them directly to see when their next available opening is! 🥰
💙💚💙💚
Most children under the age of 6 do not have the upper body strength or coordination skills to save themselves, using traditional swim strokes, in a water emergency. It often takes years of lessons for them to be able to learn those strokes well enough to save themselves while using them.
But children under 5 are at the highest risk of drowning NOW!
The good news is that there ARE skills they can lean now and quickly, that can save their lives!
Give your little the gift of survival swim lessons. Give them the chance to survive the most likely cause of death in their age group.
Save the traditional lessons, which are also very important to learn, for when they are older than 6 and can learn them well.
Survival swim lessons even lend a hand in helping kids learn traditional strokes much faster, when they are older and really ready to learn them.

Crying is not always bad.
When you come into the world the first thing we want to hear is your baby’s cry.
If your child would fall into the water, wouldn’t you want to HEAR them?!
We strap our kids into their car seats, even when they cry, because we know it will save their lives.
We make sure they go to school, even when they cry, because we know it’s best for them.
We stop them from doing dangerous things, even when they cry, because we want to protect them.
Crying kids is not an excuse not to get them the lessons they need to keep themselves safe from the number one thing that could kill them.
Drowning is the number one killer of our kids.
Get them skilled….even if they cry.
Take it from a mom who lost her child to drowning….it’s far better to hear them cry for a little while than to never hear that beautiful cry again.
Are lessons REALLY just 10 minutes?! 😱
We know, we know....it sounds a little crazy but this is very much by design. Here's a bit of info as to why we do short, frequent lessons in ISR...
💦 It's the way young children learn💦
As babies, we don't practice walking once a week. Standing, balancing, cruising are done in tiny increments each day as part of our experience of learning to walk. And similar to walking, swimming is a sensorimotor skill best learned by experience over time.
💦Kids thrive on routine💦
The consistency of the daily lesson schedule creates an optimal learning environment. When kids know where they are going, who they will be with, and what is expected of them they begin to feel confident and secure, building trust with their instructor as they are taught these priceless skills.
💦It’s WORK!💦
People often think of swimming as a "for fun" activity, but they forget...it's a workout! Little bodies get tired quickly, and fatigued muscles + water (the most unforgiving environment on the planet) = dangerous. Safety is our top priority, so instructors closely monitor your child's fatigue to ensure they are practicing efficiently for an optimal learning experience.

Some children exhibit fear in or around water..these emotions can come out during bathtime, swimtime, or even just dipping feet in the ocean. This may leave you wondering how they will fare in ISR lessons!
We find that most children who appear fearful towards water are just unskilled and therefore lack confidence in aquatic environments. Our lesson structure is customized to every child's individual needs and experience, and we always present small achievable tasks that set them up to succeed.
This allows children to build skills quickly, and in turn, their negative emotions turn into confidence! Bye bye fear, hello to the ability to safely enjoy the water 👋💙💦

Your child can learn to Self-Rescue at 6 months old!
At ISR, we are big believers in "The Sooner, The Safer" when asked the ideal age to enroll a child in lessons. Many families will second guess enrolling an infant because their baby doesn't do much (yet!) and it's hard to imagine them ever making it to water by themselves. Another common reason families opt to wait is not having a backyard pool at home.
But sadly, we know of many very loved, watched-like-a-hawk little ones who used their new walking skills or lightning fast toddler ways to quickly and quietly meet water alone. These instances often happen at "non-swim" times when supervising the water is not top of mind. They also more frequently happen when the family is out of their element vs at home with their normal routine- think a night at a relatives, a playdate at a house with an unfenced pool, or in a vacation rental.
We cannot prepare the path for our children, but we can prepare our children for the path 💙Once your babe is 6 months and sitting independently, we would love to meet your family!

What we teach in ISR…. 💙
What your child will learn in ISR lessons depends on his or her age and developmental readiness 💙
Typically, little ones who are 6+ mos and sitting up independently 👶will learn to roll to their back from any face down position in the water and maintain that face up floating posture until help arrives.
Once those babies are fully mobile toddlers and big kids 👦👧they learn the same rollback to float with the addition of a short swim to the wall, steps, or the outstretched hand of a grownup who is in the water with them! You will see ISR skilled students perform their swim, float, swim skills in an impressive sequence to move themselves through water safely and efficiently.
Always putting safety first, ISR will teach your child aquatic competence (which leads to confidence!) and provides the foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment in and around the water.
Our unique results are achieved through fully customized, safe and effective, one-on-one lessons with only your child and their Certified ISR Instructor in the water. To find the instructor nearest you, visit www.infantswim.com and put your location into the search tool!
