Teaching our little ones how to safely get in and out of the pool is a vital step in building their confidence and ensuring their safety. Early swim lessons not only promote a love for swimming but also equip children with the skills they need to stay safe around water.

While might be coming to a close, water safety should always be a topic with your family! Keep the conversation going with your family all year and continue working on those life saving swim skills!

When we think of drowning we often think of young kids but teens are also at risk. Teens risk for drowning is higher in lakes, rivers, and other natural bodies of water. Talk to your teens about water safety and ensure there is an adult present at all times. Drowning is swift and silent, even for our teens!

Right from the beginning, every SafeSplash students learns the basics of water safety and efficient swimming techniques. We believe swimmers need to develop swim skills that not only allow them to float, but to also move themselves to safety as strong and confident swimmers. Having an efficient swim stroke enables swimmers to move themselves out of potentially dangerous situations. Children with autism are among some of the most at risk demographics when it comes to drowning. According to the Red Cross, children with autism are about 160 times more likely to experience both nonfatal and fatal drowning compared to their peers.

This week during Water Safety Month we are focusing on Lake Safety Tips! As we approach Memorial Day and warmer weather it is important that we stay safe while near all bodies of water. Over 25% of all drownings among children occur in Lakes. Please watch your children closely and get familiar with the safety precautions when swimming in Lakes.
