Did you know that a child's ability to cross the midline is crucial for their development? 🤸♀️ Crossing midline means reaching across the body to perform tasks, and it's essential for building coordination, balance, and cognitive skills. This skill plays a key role in activities such as reading, writing, and participating in sports.
When children engage in activities that involve crossing the midline, like playing catch, drawing large shapes, or even dancing, they promote better brain connectivity and support overall growth. These exercises encourage both sides of the brain to communicate, fostering improved motor skills and cognitive development.
Parents and caregivers can make a big difference by incorporating these activities into daily routines. Not only do they aid in developmental milestones, but they also make learning fun and interactive! 🧠✨
Let's support our kids in their journey to grow strong, smart, and coordinated!

Saw this story about a fellow small business today. When someone backs out of their commitment it surely hits us small businesses the hardest. We are often committing resources far before a client/customer walks in the door and the ramifications have to be absorbed by small businesses when commitments aren’t upheld. Thank you to all of our amazing clients for always respecting our time and policies. ❤️

Parenting is a journey filled with choices, challenges, and countless opportunities for growth. Understanding the different approaches to parenting is essential for fostering healthy child development and nurturing strong family bonds. 💪🏻 👩 👨 👧 💪🏻
Let’s explore the four main parenting styles:
1️⃣ Authoritarian: The authoritarian parenting style is characterized by strict rules, high demands, and low responsiveness. Parents following this approach often prioritize obedience and discipline over warmth and communication. While it may lead to immediate compliance, authoritarian parenting can hinder the development of autonomy and self-expression in children.
2️⃣ Authoritative: Unlike authoritarian parenting, the authoritative style strikes a balance between setting high expectations and providing emotional support. Parents adopting this approach are firm yet nurturing, offering guidance while respecting their children’s individuality. Research suggests that authoritative parenting fosters a positive parent-child relationship, promotes self-esteem, and encourages self-regulation skills.
3️⃣ Permissive: Permissive parenting is characterized by lenient attitudes, few rules, and high responsiveness. Parents following this style often prioritize their children’s happiness and autonomy above all else, sometimes at the expense of setting clear boundaries. While permissive parenting may create a warm and nurturing environment, it can also lead to challenges such as entitlement and lack of self-discipline.
4️⃣ Neglectful: The neglectful parenting style is marked by low levels of both demands and responsiveness. Parents following this approach may be emotionally detached, uninvolved, or overwhelmed by personal challenges. Neglectful parenting can have serious consequences for children’s emotional and cognitive development, leading to feelings of abandonment and insecurity.
At our OT clinic, we are committed to empowering parents with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to navigate the complexities of parenthood and foster positive outcomes for their children. Join us on this journey of discovery and transformation!

The holiday season can be a sensory whirlwind for children with sensory sensitivities.
Here's how to identify and manage sensory overload:
👉 Identify Triggers: Keep an eye out for signs of distress in your child.
👉 Observe what situations or stimuli set off their sensory overload.
👉 Common triggers include loud noises, bright lights, crowded spaces, unfamiliar textures or smells, and changes in routine. Knowing these triggers is the first step.
➡️ Create a Sensory-Friendly Environment: Once you know the triggers, it's time to create a safe space.
➡️ Dim the lights or use soft lighting, play calming music, limit screen time, and designate a quiet, cozy corner where your child can take refuge.
➡️Sensory tools like weighted blankets or fidget toys can work wonders.
Remember, understanding and addressing your child's sensory needs can make the holiday season more enjoyable for everyone.
What do you put in place to help your child through the holiday season? 🎁❄️
At Children's Therapy Center, Co., we deeply appreciate your valuable feedback! 😊

Dyspraxia can make a child seem clumsy, awkward, and prone to accidents.
They might struggle to sit upright in their chair like their peers or frequently lose balance on uneven surfaces.
This condition affects the way they process sensory information, making it challenging to plan and execute new motor actions.
You might notice they struggle with forming ideas, planning sequences, or performing unfamiliar motor tasks.
For instance, they could frequently break toys, have difficulties with ball games, or encounter challenges in activities that require coordination.
It's crucial to provide support and understanding to help them navigate these hurdles.
Is your child showing any of these signs? Head over to the link and bio and call us today!
We are here to help!
Remember, every playtime is a stepping stone for your child’s development. 💪🎉
Sensory processing isn't a one-size-fits-all concept.
Think of it as a continuum.
We all have our sensory quirks and needs. For example, sipping an iced drink through a straw helps me stay focused during long meetings.
These are preferences, NOT disorders.
Most of us land in the middle of this sensory continuum, handling input and interactions smoothly.
However, some folks find themselves on the extremes of this continuum.
They might be super-sensitive or less responsive to sensory input.
When these sensory quirks start affecting daily life, that's when we talk about Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).
It's about recognizing when sensory challenges become chronic and impact daily functioning.
When SPD falls in either end of the continuum, extra support and understanding can be essential.
Concerned about your child's growth? We're here to help! Our free Red Flags checklist is a handy tool to check if your child might benefit from Occupational Therapy.
👉 Step 1: Download the Checklist - Get our easy checklist to see if your child's experiences match common concerns.
👉 Step 2: Reach Out to an Expert - If you spot these flags, consider a skilled OT with advanced Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) training.
👉 Step 3: What to Expect - During the evaluation, your child enjoys fun activities while the therapist learns about their needs.

SPD can affect one or many senses.
Most kids don't fit neatly into one category. Each person has their unique pattern of SPD - there are over 260,000!
At Children’s Therapy Center Co., we know there's no one-size-fits-all approach.
An Occupational Therapist watches how your child interacts with their world and uses different tests to understand their unique sensory style.
SPD comes in three categories:
1️⃣ Sensory Modulation Disorder: Some kids struggle to handle sensory inputs, like clothes tags or crashing into things for input.
2️⃣ Sensory-Based Motor Disorder: This affects balance and motor skills, making some tasks hard due to how their body is processing sensory information.
3️⃣ Sensory Discrimination Disorder: Trouble understanding sensory info, like not knowing where you're being touched.

Playtime is really important for kids.
When children play, they're doing more than just having fun; they're improving their ability to use their hands and fingers. 🤗
Playing with toys like blocks or dough helps strengthen little hands.
It's like a playful workout for their fingers! And while they're playing, kids also learn how to think creatively and solve problems. 🧠
For parents and caregivers, playing with kids is a precious time.
It helps you connect with your little ones and support them as they learn and grow.
Each time they grab a toy or create something, their hand skills get better. 🌟
So, let's make sure kids have plenty of playtime.
It's not just about having fun; it's a crucial part of their learning and development.
