COLLECTIVE BARGAINING does NOT RAISE TAXES………….
What is Collective Bargaining?
Collective Bargaining allows us to be advocates for the Citizens of San Juan, Texas. regarding Public Safety. Fire and Police have raised concerns for several years due to lack of personal and poor working conditions. We are now asking the Citizens of San Juan to support us in giving us a voice to better serve the Community of San Juan. This will allow us to negotiate:
- Better working conditions
Officers and Firefighters have been overworked: Officers at times have worked up to 16 hours per shift and firefighters work up 72 hour shifts. Properly equip both Fire and Police with equipment which will benefit the Citizens of San Juan.
- Training
At this moment, each Officer for San Juan Police Department is responsible for their own training to maintain their license. San Juan Police Department puts on training for other agencies and with Collective Bargaining we can raise the concern that San Juan Police Officers will receive the adequate training that they need by the Department before training is provided to any other department.

Collective Bargaining is a very transparent process in which everything is placed in Black and White and nothing is hidden from the Citizens of San Juan. Rumors about Taxes being raised due to Collective Bargaining are false.

We Thank all the registered Voters of San Juan who signed our petition and listened to our concerns when we went door to door to your residences. Our Officers and Firefighters are prohibited to discuss Collective Bargaining while on duty, but if anyone has questions or concerns we are more than happy to address them, just message us. These are just a few issues that we need the communities support on.

The Fire Inside

We hear people whine all the time about compensation. Pay is too low, insurance is too expensive, not enough time off, retirement options suck, tuition assistance won't cut it, etc. While there are many places, both career and volunteer, struggling to adequately compensate their members, you must ask yourself does the problem lie with the benefits package or your contribution?

First and foremost, if you got into this business based on how you thought it could benefit you, stop reading, collect your things, and go resign. This is and always will be about serving others. Half the problem with compensation is many are joining thinking they are owed something because of the nature of our occupation. The only thing this job owes you is comradary, the satisfaction of a job well done, and the opportunity to serve others.

The problem with compensation is that it is normally based on rank and tenure, rather than what you actually contribute. This means we are getting robbed by some and bargains out of others. If firefighting was like professional sports, there would be alot of unhappy campers when their contracts got restructured for lack of performance!

Your rank, time, peers, department, and community OWE YOU NOTHING! The next time you want to complain about how much you make or what you are given for your service, stop and consider if your efforts are really deserving of more. If you occupy a recliner, refuse to mentor new members, and are an advocate of the bare minimum, be happy we still allow you to show up. Gracing us with your presence and disguising such as experience doesn't entitle you to s**t. If you feel you deserve more, prove it and perhaps it will happen.

For those who fall into the category of a bargain, remember there is something to be said for how a hard days work makes you feel. Sometimes the rewards of success, brotherhood, and helping others are worth far more than money. When you retire, seeing those you developed grow into senior guys, officers, and Chiefs will be all the compensation you need, because at the end of the day, being able to look yourself in the mirror and know you gave more than you took is the best reward of all!
