There’s a special kind of feeling
When I think about you, Dad
It’s a pleasure to remember
All the happy times we’ve had
There’s a special kind of caring
That is meant for you alone
There’s a place somewhere
Within my heart
That only you can own
Missing you always,
Happy Father’s Day

Today is , which commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. To recognize this day it is appropriate to review what the folds of the flag mean.

The first fold is a symbol of life.

The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of Veterans who are departing our ranks.

The fourth fold represents our weaker nature.

The fifth fold is a tribute to our country.

The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces

The eighth fold is a tribute to those who entered into the valley of the shadow of death and also to honor mothers.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood.

The tenth fold is a tribute to fathers.

The eleventh fold is in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies through their eyes the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen glorifies on their eyes God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

When the flag is completely folded the stars are uppermost reminding us of our national motto “In God we trust.”

Life Pro Tip: When a loved one is grieving and has no answer for your “what can I do to help” question, set an alert in your phone for 30-60 days out, and when reminded, reach out to them with an activity they’d like. People tend to have lots of support in the beginning, but it dwindles quickly.

What do coins on a gravestone mean?
By leaving a coin on a deceased soldier's headstone, you're letting their family know that somebody stopped by to pay their respects.
A penny simply means you visited the gravestone.
A dime means you served with the soldier in some capacity.
A nickel means you trained at boot camp together.
A quarter means that you were with the soldier when they died.

As Mother's Day approaches, we're honoring and celebrating the many amazing mother-daughter duos who serve our families together.

What was it like growing up with a mother in the funeral profession?
Lauren: My mom worked a lot of late nights. I didn't understand the hard work, exhausting hours and passion that funeral directors put into their work to serve families. I get it now and appreciate what it's like to be in this profession.

Kim: Lauren suffered with a mother who worked too much. I learned (although later than I should have) that work-life balance should tilt more towards life. I pay closer attention to it today.

What are the biggest lessons you've learned from each other?
Kim: Lauren has the unique ability to analyze a situation and quickly come up with solutions. I remember discussing with her middle school teacher what a great leader she would become, and she has certainly done just that!

Lauren: Your mom always knows what's best for you. When my mom gave me advice, most of the time I would do the opposite, and it wouldn't pan out well. She never had to tell me I told you so, I knew she was right.

"Happy . “The role of a firefighter in today’s society – be it urban, rural, natural environment, volunteer, career, industrial, defense force, aviation, motorsport, or other is one of dedication, commitment and sacrifice – no matter what country we reside and work. In the fire service, we fight together against one common enemy – fire – no matter what country we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak.”
