WELCOME OUR NEW PRINCIPAL! Kimberly Valentino

Dear Dayton Community,

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Dayton Elementary School. As an educator, I have a broad range of elementary school experience including serving as an Assistant Principal, teaching special education and teaching a variety of grade levels. I am also the mother of three children.

I hope that you are continuing to enjoy summertime with your family. If you are new to Dayton this year, welcome! Returning families, we are excited to welcome you back to Dayton for the upcoming school year! The staff is working hard to prepare for the first day of school on Thursday, August 19th. I am looking forward to a great year and am excited to see students back on campus!

Mr. Moore will be hosting another Zoom session for families on Wed., Sep. 23rd at 6pm. The discussion will focus on Dayton's Title I program as well as any questions or concerns you have about the Distance Learning program. Hello Dayton Tigers!

I hope this post finds you healthy, happy, and enjoying the last weeks of summer. I want to acknowledge that this is a very different way to start the school year, but I know that our amazing Dayton staff and community will work to make this a wonderful year. If you are new to our community, welcome! If you are returning to Dayton, welcome back!

As you know, we are beginning the school year with distance learning. A technology survey will be going out from the district next week. If you need a device or lack reliable internet access, please be sure to put that information on the survey! This survey will be used to allocate technological resources to families to make sure that all of our students are ready for distance learning.

Distance learning weekly schedules are currently being negotiated, but let me assure you that we’ve taken into account the attention span and what is appropriate for our little ones in putting together schedules. As soon as they have been approved, we will share them with you! The state has come out with requirements around distance learning, so it will look different from what we did in the spring. For more information on state requirements, feel free to look at the board meeting presentations from July 28th and August 4th on the district website. There is a lot of information in those slide decks.

Many things will be different this year as compared to other school years, but some things will not change. We will do what we always do at Dayton: we will do what is best for our kids. We will be focusing not just on the academics of school, but on making sure your children feel supported and safe in this new situation. Just know that this is still a learning process for all of us and we are looking forward to learning together. We miss all of our Dayton Tigers and can’t wait to see them (virtually) when we start school on August 20th. More information will follow in the coming weeks, but until then, reach out if you have questions. We also urge you to check the Dayton web site (day.slzusd.org).

Dayton will be distributing Chromebooks to families today, Wednesday, April 1st from ​2:00pm until 5:30pm.

Join us on Wednesday, October 9th from 5:30pm to 7pm in the Dayton Cafeteria for our Soul Shoppe Parent Night. Learn more about the new social and emotional support program we have started this year at Dayton.

Back to School Night is Wednesday, Sep. 11th from 6pm-7:30pm. 4th and 5th grade classroom presentations will be from 6pm-6:30pm. Teacher and staff introductions along with school information will be in the cafeteria from 6:30pm-6:45pm. TK-3rd grade classroom presentations will be from 6:45pm-7:30pm. We hope to see you there!

First Day of School is Wednesday! We can't wait to see you! Here is the schedule for the first weeks of school.

- August 20th Tuesday Ice Cream Social 2:30pm - 3:30pm
- August 21st Wednesday Minimum Day K - 5th Grade 12:50pm; TK - 11:45am
- August 22nd - August 30th are Short Days K - 5th Grade - 1:40pm; TK - 1:05pm
- Regular Schedule begins Sep.3rd

All kindergarten and TK families are welcome to attend our annual TK and Kinder Play Date. The Play Date will be on the Dayton Campus out on the playground on Monday, August 19th from 4:30pm-5pm.

Join us for the Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 20th at 2:30pm in front of the school. Class lists will be posted and you can meet your new teacher!

We have an opportunity to have the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club run an after school childcare program at Dayton School, beginning this fall, now that the Kid's Club is no longer operating at our school. If you are interested in having a childcare option right on campus at Dayton, please come to our organizational meeting at 6:00pm on Monday, August 5th in the Dayton Library.

Dayton Spring Garden Day! Saturday, May 4th from 9am - 12pm. Help us make Dayton a beautiful place to learn. We will be weeding and cleaning around the school!

SCHOOL CLOSURE NOTICE FOR
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH

Hello San Lorenzo School District Families:
In coordination and consultation with the Alameda County Office of Education and county Superintendents, we are going to close all district schools and our district offices tomorrow, Friday, November 16th, due to the poor air quality that has been persisting in our area for the last several days. We are expecting the air quality to improve over the next week, but will alert families after the
Thanksgiving holiday of any school closures. This closure also includes our ROP program, and all activities and sporting events that were scheduled for tomorrow. Thank you all for your patience.
