Many of you have inquired recently regarding the original concrete bridge located between green 1 and tee box 2 and it’s repair. The bridge is owned and maintained by the Alameda County Flood Control District and is their responsibility for maintenance and repairs. FEMA is currently working with Alameda County Flood Control regarding repairs to the bridge and additional improvements to the Estudillo Channel. When we are able to learn more and get an accurate time line, we will let everyone know. Additional information can be found on Notices | Alameda County Flood Control District (acfloodcontrol.org)

Range will be closed open to noon for our bi-weekly clean pick next Wednesday July 5th due to the Holiday on the 4th.

Looking for a fun way to compete in the afternoons. Spark Golf has launched their Summer Series. We have 2 upcoming leagues. One on the Lema course, and one on the Marina Course CLICK HERE for more info. Both Leagues start at 5:00PM.

We are in the process of adding 2 Flock license plate camera's to our entrances. The first camera was installed this week. These camera's are connected directly to the San Leandro Police Department and our hope is that these camera's will discourage vandalism and give us the opportunity to catch anyone who does by capturing everyone's license plate number.

We sent out a an email regarding our course improvements last week. In the email we outlined the hours of operation for the trucks hauling the dirt onto the course. Some misinterpreted these hours to be for our normal golf operation. That is obviously not the case and we are still open from sunrise to 9:00pm.

Monarch Bay Upcoming Course Improvements.
Monarch Bay Golf Club renovated the current two-tier driving range structure and landing area in 1998. After 25 years of operation, upgrades are required to ensure Monarch Bay’s driving range remains competitive. Over the next 12 months, proposed improvements to the range and golf course include: Complete refurbishment of the 2-tiered driving range structure including lighting, heaters, sound system, food and beverage area, structural improvements, and paint. Toptracer range technology will be included as well.
Renovate 7-acre landing area to include importing soil to improve drainage, irrigation improvements and sodding with drought-tolerant grass, that will allow us to pick balls during the winter months and reduce range closures. Import soil to improve the east side of holes #12, #13 and between holes # 3 and #7. This design work was originally to be undertaken during the course renovation in 2000, but was not completed due to budget restraints.
These improvements will ensure that Monarch Bay Golf Club remains competitive throughout the Bay Area. Included in these improvements will be the import and shaping of approximately 125,000 yards of soil.

Below is a summary of the first phase of the project which is the import of soil:
Import of approximately 125,000 yards of soil to improve drainage on range and golf course design. Approximately 100,000 yards will be delivered to the southern portion of the golf course (south of Estudillo Channel) and 25,000 yards will be delivered to the driving range landing area. 60-100 trucks per day (~10 trucks per hour). Approximately 1,000 cubic yards per day will be imported.
Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7am-4pm. No work on weekends or holidays.
Import of soil to begin in June 2023, and completed no later than June 2024. Imports comprise approximately 125 days total during this time frame.
Holes #7, #12 and #13 are in the construction areas, but will remain open. However, tee boxes on these holes may be relocated so as not to impact construction.

Keeping our fingers crossed that we can aerify next week. Front 9 will be aerified Monday April 3rd (golfers will play the back 9 twice until 2:00) and Back 9 will be aerified Tuesday April 4th (golfers will play front 9 twice until 2:00) We will be offering the twilight rate all week for Non-Players Club Members.

Championship
For players with handicap index less than 5.5 and minimum age 16. Play is at scratch, 36 holes with no cut.
Senior Championship
For players who have reached their 50th birthday as of the first day of the event (age 55 and over for NCGA Points eligibility). Handicap index less than 8.0. Play is at scratch, 36 holes stroke play with no cut.
Net
For players aged 16 and over with handicap index under 18.0. Play is 100% course handicap stroke play net; 36 holes with no cut.
Women
Women are welcome to enter this event, and if there are enough entries we will form a separate division.

UPDATE ON NEW CARTS
Monarch Bay’s new fleet of golf carts are now equipped with GPS. This will allow staff to monitor pace of play and to geofence (virtual fence) the course to keep golf carts away from sensitive areas.
You will hear a beep if you start to drive into an area that golf carts are not allowed. If you stay in these areas the golf cart will automatically shut off and you will have to reverse out of the area, back to the non-sensitive area. Sensitive areas are around tees and greens (excluding cart paths) as well as native areas in and around the course.
ALL PAR 3’s ARE NOW GEOFENCED FOR CART PATHS ONLY.
To help us with the condition of the course around our greens, you will see 2 yellow stakes (sensitive area) approximately 30 feet to 50 feet in front of the green, where you will need to drive to the cart path for your hole. If you proceed past that point, your cart will automatically shut off and you will need to reverse out of that area and drive to the nearest cart path. Our goal is to improve pace of play and overall course conditions, as well as maintain the new golf cart fleet for everyone’s enjoyment.
