This month, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on a remarkable individual: Paul Leclair! For over 28 years, Paul has been the driving force behind the Eastbay Bulldogs, a program that has transformed the lives of countless young athletes.
From the very beginning, Paul collaborated closely with Phil Doherty, the visionary founder of MVP Sports. With Phil’s guidance and support, Paul launched what has become an incredible journey for the Bulldogs. Paul fondly recalls, “We, the Bulldogs, played in his leagues and tournaments, bought all our uniforms and practice gear through MVP Sports, and I even coached with Phil in his MVP Flight Elite Basketball program, the premier youth team in Northern California for nearly three decades.”
Under Paul's leadership, the Bulldogs Basketball Club has nurtured over 7,000 kids, training them from 2nd grade through high school in Pleasanton, CA. More than 170 of these talented athletes have progressed to college basketball, and over 1,000 have made it to the high school level. The beauty of sports lies not just in skill development, but in building character and community. Long-lasting relationships flourish among teammates, coaches, and vendors alike—creating bonds that extend far beyond the court.
As a heartfelt tribute to Phil, Paul recently adorned the Bulldogs' uniforms with Phil’s initials, honoring a mentor who has had a profound impact on his life and the youth basketball community in the Eastbay. “With all Phil did for me personally, for the Bulldogs, and for youth basketball, it felt fitting to honor him on our uniforms and practice gear for the next year,” Paul shared.
