CRAZY INTEREST RATES! As we see 30-year fixed interest rate mortgages skyrocket this year with August above 7% don’t be too alarmed. Why you ask? After some research I found the highest rate is history was October 1981 at a mere 18.63% for a 30-year fixed loan, likely due to high inflation. Could you even image with homes in the area over a million dollars? So, let us look at the data. Historically in 1950 rates were around 4%, 60’s 2.65-3.75%, 70’s 7.3-7.5%, 80’s 7.5-9.75%, 90’s 10.13-8%, 2000’s 8-5%, 2010’s 5.14-3.72%, 2020’s 3.72% to January 2121 2.65%, August 2023 above 7%. The data shows the average 30-year fixed rate mortgage over the past 50 years is 7.75%. I know it’s not 2.65 but it’s NOT 18.65! So everyone settle down and look at what is best for you, look at your options, make informed decisions. Contact me with any real estate questions you may have, and for all your real estate needs.
