CELEBRATING INDEPENDENCE DAY IN SANDPOINT
Wild Horse Trail Chapter in Sandpoint joined in the 4th of July parade. We had the special honor of having WW II veteran Elwood Werry ride with us. He rode with our hardworking HODAR Andy Cooper in Andy's Model A . Some of our ladies rode in the decorated trailer, again furnished by HODAR Andy Cooper (didn't I say he's hard working?) and some walked carrying our banners and flags. It was a beautiful day for us up here in North Idaho after weeks of cold, clouds, and rain. The Lions club always places up at the beginning of the parade with all of the veterans entries. We are proud to represent the Revolutionary War - Daughters of the American Revolution.

This past Friday March 29, Wild Horse Trail Chapter hosted a Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Luncheon Celebration. We were able to present to the President of VietnamVeterans890 of Sandpoint a Proclamation from the City of Sandpoint. The Proclamation was read into the minutes of March 20 City Council meeting. We honored about 15 or more veterans, Families and guests helped with this National Appreciation Day. The veterans received our warmest Welcome Home and Thank You.

We had a good turnout out at yesterday's 4th of July Parade, in Sandpoint. Lots of chapter members helped decorate and march. We were greeted with cheers, smiles, and waves from many, many Sandpoint residents and visitors. Hope all of you had a wonderful day yesterday, as we all celebrated our Independence!

We had a planning party last Saturday and a fabulous potluck. This chapter really knows how to put on a potluck full of yummies! There are so many things we can do for our community. Let's pick our committees and plan for an exciting year!

This Memorial Day, let us honor all those who were lost while serving in our armed forces. DAR members all over the country and world recognize these brave men and women for their devoted service to our country. Let us never forget the sacrifices made for our nation’s freedom. May 6, National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

The 2021 theme is: Lord Pour Out Your Love, Life, and Liberty.

"Fasting and prayer are religious exercises; the enjoining them an act of discipline. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the time for these exercises, and the objects proper for them, according to their own particular tenets; and right can never be safer than in their hands, where the Constitution has deposited it."
—Thomas Jefferson, 1808

Historical Summary:

1775 – The first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer
1863 – Abraham Lincoln called for such a day.
1952 – Congress established NDP as an annual event by a joint resolution, signed into law by President Truman (82-324)
1988 – The law was amended and signed by President Reagan, designating the NDP as the first Thursday in May (100-307).

The 130th Continental Congress will be virtual this year.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=795163471137393&id=378782832775461

Unfortunately, the forecast does not contain as much sunshine as I had hoped, making it impossible to plan for an in-person Congress once again this year. As of today, March 30, the District of Columbia is still in Phase 2 of its reopening, meaning that indoor gatherings are limited to 10 people and capacity of staff working within the building remains at just 25 percent. Because there are no assurances that restrictions will be suitably eased by late June, we have no responsible choice but to move our annual conference to a virtual format. I’m deeply sorry – I was so very much looking forward to welcoming you back to your home at 1776 D Street, especially to see our restored DAR Constitution Hall.

While it is sad to share this decision, I take solace in believing that members from around the world will again have the opportunity to take part in our annual gathering – and I assure you, that we will stage an event that will be worthy to be called the 130th Continental Congress. I am determined that we will not allow the pandemic to stop us from recognizing the outstanding work of our members and the achievements of our award winners over the past year, and I am proud that we will conduct the business of the Continental Congress using technology. Please join me in accepting this difficult decision and embracing this reality to make the most of it. We're all chomping at the bit to get our latest issue of American Spirit Magazine!

https://www.facebook.com/1002545479889500/posts/2195972520546784/

The March/April 2021 issues of American Spirit and Daughters newsletter were originally scheduled to be mailed the week of February 23. However, due to inclement weather in the Midwest, our printer has not been able to receive or send mail and their regular deliveries have been delayed. They will hopefully resume normal operations soon, but you may experience a delay in receiving your magazines. Our printer ships American Spirit and the Daughters newsletter to our subscribers using freight lines as well as UPS, FedEx and USPS to deliver magazines to mail facilities throughout the United States and units overseas. Because our publications are shipped from Liberty, Missouri, this could potentially affect all of our subscribers, not just those who live in the Midwest. We hope that this situation will be resolved soon. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
