Cascade Rescue Company

In 1962, Victor Bradley developed an aluminum rickshaw-style toboggan. This first device worked better than the sleds available at the time, but was still not serviceable enough for continued use by a patroller who might have to haul in several injured persons in the same day. In 1964, two more toboggans of similar design were created. One was put into use at Stevens Pass, the second was discarded

after being destroyed during testing. In 1965, the first all-aluminum toboggan was created. New handles were devised that were easily attached and detached. The handles also had a built in backrest. A brake was installed on the toboggan to allow the patroller better control over the sled. Although it was an improvement on earlier models, this sled was never sold to the industry nor the general public. In 1966, the first all-fiberglass type toboggan was manufactured and tested at Stevens Pass. The handle could be folded or made rigid with a locking device. A 30 inch, two-way, tapered fin was located in the center of the sled to provide stability and tracking. The improvements were great, and this sled took on the company name: the first "Cascade Toboggan." A patent was obtained and the new toboggan was advertised in the NSPS Toboggan Round-Up. At this point in time, only six toboggans had been sold by Cascade Toboggan & Rescue Equipment Company. Things started to heat up and by the end to the year, Victor and his son Robert knew they had a winning product! In 1967, the new "Cascade Toboggan" was demonstrated to 26 ski areas. Thirty toboggans were sold that year. Patrol and Rescue Professionals everywhere were beginning to see the advantages of the improved design and innovations taking place at Cascade Toboggan. In 1968, further improvements were added to the "Cascade Toboggan." New handles were made of square steel tubing and the back rest was eliminated. Nearly 100 toboggans were sold that year. In 1969, Cascade Toboggan accepted an invitation from the NSP Eastern Division to show the new toboggan at the fall convention at Lake Placid. The new design had overwhelming acceptance and the order volume doubled from the previous year. In the early 1970's, Robert Bradley became the sole owner of Cascade Toboggan. Many new products were added and numerous design innovations occurred. The name Cascade Toboggan became an industry standard to patrollers and rescue professionals worldwide. Cascade Toboggan continued to grow and innovate during the 1980's. In 2010, Cascade Toboggan Rescue Equipment Company officially changed its name to Cascade Rescue. This change was made to more accurately reflect the true scope and nature of the 350 plus products manufactured and sold by the company. Today, Cascade Rescue Company is owned and operated by Dana & Susan Jordan. Relatives of the Bradley family, Dana and Susan continue to grow the company with innovation and quality. The business is located in Sandpoint, Idaho where they manufacture and sell rescue toboggans and high incline litters, as well as over 350 other products for the rescue industry. Cascade Toboggans and Rescue Litters are in use at virtually every ski area in the USA, 23 countries around the world, and with thousands of SAR, Mountain Rescue teams, and Fire Departments. We're excited to announce that Bristow Helicopters Ltd Search And Rescue has confirmed that the Cascade Rescue Company Professional Series litters meet the requirements of a mountain rescue ‘winchable’ stretcher.

The litters are being added to the BHL list of approved stretchers by mountain rescue teams and can therefore be winched by all SAR helicopters in the UK.

Elevated Safety, a Harken Company, has acquired PEAK Rescue, a rope access & rescue training service company based in Casper, Wyoming. This acquisition brings together two highly respected businesses, thereby broadening the training offerings, and expanding the accessibility of both businesses.

Going forward, the Peak Rescue brand will be integrated into Elevated Safety. Both PEAK Rescue and Elevated Safety employees will remain in place. All individual contact information will remain the same. In addition, existing contracts, courses and business engagements will carry over without interruption.

Micah Rush, the founder and leader of PEAK Rescue will continue to be involved. Today is ICAR - International Mountain Rescue Day!

Many years ago, specifically on the weekend of August 28 and 29, 1948, mountain rescue experts convened upon the invitation of the Austrian Alpine Club. During this conference at Wilder Kaiser, experiences, knowledge, and technology were exchanged. This pivotal gathering led to the founding of ICAR (International Commission for Alpine Rescue) in 1955, and it strengthened the international network and community of mountain rescuers.

August 28 therefore marks a significant day in the history of the international mountain rescue efforts. With the International Mountain Rescue Day as introduced by ICAR in 2022, we celebrate the spirit of community, progress, and the commitment of all those people who dedicate themselves to the safety of others in the mountains.

Legendary Colorado climber Gerry Roach injured in 13er climb

Gerry Roach is a LEGEND. He literally wrote THE guidebook on climbing Colorado's highest peaks. We are proud that our StableFlight Heli Bag Complete Operational Package system was used to help hoist him off the mountain by the amazing crew of the Colorado Army National Guard and the Colorado Hoist Rescue Team. Kudos to all the agencies that assisted with this massive effort. All of us at Cascade Rescue Company wish Gerry a speedy recovery so he can back to doing what he loves-climbing mountains and sharing his wisdom through his writing.

We love seeing our products making a difference for both two and four legged patients! This weekend in Kentucky's Red River Gorge area, Sasha was bitten by a copperhead and needed quick transport to definitive care. The Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team responded with a Cascade Rescue Company Professional Series Litter, TerraTamer Wheel, Equalizer Handles and a lot of heart to make sure that Sasha had a smooth ride. The full Harken Safety and Rescue team spent a few days in Flagstaff, AZ a little over a week ago at the Mountain Rescue Association conference. This included the conference and a pre-conference workshop focused on Artificial High Directionals.

Cascade Rescue was well represented, and we had the opportunity to provide information to attendees on our StableFlight and Stable Seat as well as the two piece Titanium Professional Series Litter, TerraTamer Wheel and Equalizer Handles.

The Elevated Safety team hosted a two-day Artificial High Directionals Pre-Conference Workshop for the Mountain Rescue Association, in Flagstaff, AZ this week. The workshop focused on rope rescue techniques, as well as mono-pod, bi-pod and tripod scenarios. Our rescue litters were utilized during a number of scenarios to assist with patient transport.

The last day of Grimpday included an 80 meter assent to recover a casualty from the top of a crane. Casualty was to be lowered to the ground, and then all team members were to descend.

We are thrilled to have been a partner of Trofeo Mezzalama, in Italy.

We provided three Carbon Extreme Toboggans, which were placed at three different strategic points on the course to bring any injured people down to the valley in case the helicopter was unable to reach the site.

Our rescue toboggans were used during the race and also to rescue two mountaineers intent on climbing peaks near the race course.

The Cascade Rescue Terra Tamer Litter Wheel offers a great lightweight alternative to bulky and heavy litter wheels.

When used with a Cascade Professional or Advance Series litter with Equalizer Handles, it creates a complete patient evacuation system. The wheel also works on most litters that don't have a plastic covered top rail.
