Making the Best Investment
Getting fit in midlife isn’t just good for your present health and wellbeing. It’s also like investing in your future, too.
Fitness can help you prevent illness, manage symptoms of common ailments, and keep you best-prepared for whatever comes your way.
There’s tons of scientific research to back this up, including two studies released this summer.
After one, the researchers concluded that exercise now helps protect people from falls later – but that the exercise must be ongoing to offer the greatest protection.
The study involved more than 11,700 participants, with an average age of 54. Results were published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
Participants who had not been very physically active over the years were 40 percent more likely to fall in their 70s. There was a greater risk for women who had been physically active around age 49 but then stopped from around age 55.
Reporting on a separate study touting resistance training, CNN wrote, “Retirement should be filled with time with loved ones, relaxation and — according to new research — heavy lifting.”
Participants who practiced resistance training with heavy loads had the best long-lasting benefit in leg strength, the researchers wrote in the journal BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine. Their length strength was just as good even four years later.
The bottom line: Exercise today and tomorrow for better health throughout life.
Let us show you how exercise at any age will provide powerful returns. It starts with your free initial consultation, so call us today.
Celebrating another Milestone Monday!
Today we congratulate our members Charlie Y. & Katherine K. on joining the 100 Workouts club!! We celebrate Catherine C. on 50 Workouts and Maya C. on her first Workout with us. Amazing Work 💪!!

How's Your Self-Care?
Self-care is important throughout life, and especially after age 40 or so. It’s vital to love yourself every day through taking positive steps to enjoy life, stay in good health, and thrive at any age.
Take a look at this checklist to see how you’re doing and where you might “level up” a bit.
1. Let’s Get Physical
Of course, we’re going to recommend you move your body purposefully every day and exercise at least a few times a week. Even if you don’t want to join a gym or studio like ours, you still need to keep up your strength, endurance, and agility.
Don’t forget about walking, swimming, yoga, and dancing – even if it’s just around the house!
2. Nourish Your Body
Five servings of fruits and vegetables… plenty of lean protein… whole grains like oats and brown rice… And water! Lots and lots of water.
Avoid ultra-processed products for whole foods. But say away from a fad diet or anything too restrictive.
3. Manage Stress
This isn’t just a luxury; it’s a vital part of self-care. So, schedule spa days for massage to relieve stress, reduce pain and improve circulation; indulge in a facial, bubble baths, or saunas. Get your hair and nails taken care of regularly.
PLUS: Keep up with regular health check-ups with physicians, eye doctor, dentist, etc. Prioritize rest and recovery. And maintain social contacts to stay engaged.
We’re here to help! Call today to book your free initial consultation.

Walking regularly after a flareup of back pain can prevent another occurrence for twice as long, according to a new study.
“Walking is a low-cost, widely accessible and simple exercise that almost anyone can engage in, regardless of geographic location, age or socio-economic status,” said a researcher from Sydney, Australia, where the study was conducted.
It followed more than 700 people, most of them women in their 50s, who had suffered back pain that was bad enough to keep them from daily activities. The study was published in The Lancet journal.
Participants also took less time off from work and cut medical visits in half, the study found.
An earlier study found that a fitness program that combines strength, flexibility, aerobic fitness is beneficial, the National Institutes of Health says.
These are both just further evidence that exercise helps you feel and move better.
And with back pain the second most common cause of disability, this is good news for countless millions of people.
Walking improves blood flow throughout the body, reduces time sitting, and improves the joints, among other benefits. It also spurs the brain to solve problems and think creatively.
But walking is just a first step, so to speak, in a well-rounded fitness program. You have so much more to gain from resistance training and more. Call today for your free initial consultation.
Happy Milestone Monday!

More people are planning for active retirements these days. They want to live where they have access to recreation, nature and exercise; proximity to airports to make travel easier; and social opportunities.
That’s the focus of the Retire There with Gil & Gene podcast, which interviews retirees in various destinations about what made it The Place.
Porto, Portugal… Green Valley, Arizona … Santa Barbara, California … Austin, Texas … Hong Kong… and, yes, even various spots in Florida.
“Many of our guests are somewhere where things feel new to them, and they realize how much they love something that involves physical exercise,” says Gil Chan.
“They’re spending retirement doing things they wanted to do but didn’t have time when they were working and raising kids,” Gene Preudhomme adds. “They’re enjoying themselves.”
“Retirement now is to do something physical,” Gil says.
Why wait for retirement or a move to a new location? Get physical with us starting now. Call today for your free initial consultation.

Success Story: ‘This Is Not OK’
Tom Bass knew his winter 2020 wedding would mark a new beginning.
But he wasn’t expecting it to become the turning point in his health and fitness.
“I was shocked when we got the photos back a few weeks later,” recalls Tom, 59, a retired chef seen above in "before and after" pics. “I had no idea I had gotten so big. I said, ‘This is not OK.’”
Many people over 40 describe a moment when they decide to start exercising and eating right. For some, it’s a medical diagnosis. Others want to play with grandkids or fit into clothes.
For Tom, it was the 1-2 punch of the photos and the pandemic lockdown. He slimmed down and has kept the weight off for three years, a healthy 170 on his 6-foot, 3-inch frame.
“I was lazy,” he says now. “I would rather sit and watch TV. I thought I had other things to do, and I didn’t pay attention to what I was eating.”
In December 2020, Tom joined a weight-control service that gives a psychological focus and a new understanding of food. He began eating mindfully rather than haphazardly.
Daily walks followed. So did weekly core and resistance training. He says it’s all exhilarating, and so are the results. For the first time, he has defined arms, a flat belly, and strong legs.
“I started because of the photos and the way I felt. But then the motivation became the fact that I felt better. And I wanted more of that.”
Let us show you how to feel, move, and look better, too. Call today for your free initial consultation.
3 Ways Fitness Manages Stress
* Exercise Boosts Endorphins. Physical activity increases the brain’s production of feel-good neurotransmitters known as endorphins. You've heard of "runner's high," right? This is what they mean.
* It Reduces the Effects of Stress. Some stress is inevitable. Regular exercise limits the effects of stress on the heart, digestive, and immune systems. And it mitigates the "fight or flight" response that's part of all of us.
* It's Good for Your Mood. Research shows that regular exercise boosts self-confidence, elevates mood, promotes relaxation, and can actually decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Let us show you much we can help. Call today for your free initial consultation.
