IVU’s urologic oncology workshop in Kumasi, Ghana last week served 12 patients in need of life-changing surgical care. Our team, led by Drs. Michael Poch and Sunil Patel, also trained 12 local surgeons and residents. The training process will continue in November with another urologic oncology workshop in Kumasi. 🇬🇭

🇬🇭 Drs. Michael Poch and Suni Patel return to Ghana this August to lead a urologic oncology workshop in Kumasi, Ghana. The workshop continues our strong partnership with Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital that includes two oncology workshops each year.

An IVU pediatric urology team led by Drs. Heidi Stephany and Christina Ching is in Mongolia this week working with our long-time partners in Ulaanbaatar. Our team leaders are joined by Drs. Catherine Nguyen, Navin Sabharwal, Alex Jang, and Dr. Norifumi Kuratani and his colleagues from Japan. The team evaluated over 60 children during clinic on the first day.

The IVUmed team is thrilled to have Dr. Ian Metzler as our new Board Secretary. Dr. Metzler has an extensive background in global health and has volunteered with IVU for years. From his first IVU research projects in medical school to his current groundbreaking low-cost simulator training for PCNL in low-resource settings, Dr. Ian Metzler exemplifies IVU’s mission and work.
