Preserving heritage while forging bold new paths — that is the Hispanic spirit. Our mentors can be the difference between a child dropping out of school and being the first in their family to earn a high school diploma. They serve as a source of motivation and inspiration for our young people, boosting their confidence in their academic abilities and their belief in their potential to achieve higher than they may have ever thought possible.

Our recent workshop, Aligning Ambitions: Mapping Your Career to Your Ideal Lifestyle Workshop empowered young adults to explore different career options guided by their Bigs.

Participants received insights into salary, education requirements, and projected take-home pay. They then budgeted for real-life expenses like housing, student loans, and entertainment to see how their chosen careers align with their future goals.

A highlight was hearing from Big Brother Erik Mattern, Managing Director at Wells Fargo, who shared valuable tips on investing and financial planning. It was an eye-opening experience for all, as Littles learned how to balance lifestyle aspirations with practical financial decisions.

Thank you to ECMC Foundation for making this workshop possible for our youth!

When Big Brother Paul and Little Brother Brandon first met, their connection was immediate. Paul recalls their first outing as one that "could not have gone better," filled with easy conversation and a quick bond. They spent time together regularly, and their relationship flourished.

But as time went on, things became more challenging. Brandon's mom faced challenges that made it difficult for him to stay connected with his Little, making outings less frequent. During this tough period, Brandon struggled with behavioral issues at school.

Yet, Paul never gave up. His patience and persistence kept the bond alive, even when it seemed hardest. Today, thanks to Paul's unwavering support, Brandon is back on track, finishing high school, exploring part-time job opportunities, and working towards earning a welding certificate.

This match story is a testament to the power of mentorship and the importance of staying committed, even when the road gets tough. With determination and a strong support system, challenges can be overcome, and new paths can be forged. 💪

The Pacifica Christian High School Baseball Team recently hosted an amazing baseball clinic for our matches! ⚾️ Bigs and Littles practiced their throwing, catching, and batting skills at three different stations. The day ended with a fun game where everyone participated, cheered each other on, and offered support. It was a fantastic opportunity for Littles to bond and make new friends. We wrapped up the event with delicious pizza! 🍕 Thanks to everyone who made this day special!

Recently, a group of our matches toured Montage Laguna Beach. Little Sister Brianna's reaction illustrates the impact of outings and exposure to new experiences.

"My favorite moment was probably when [Angel] said she started working at McDonalds and she got to where she was; I think that that was really a moment where [we learned that] you can start at the bottom and really make it to the top."

On June 2, we hosted our annual Bright Futures Brunch at the Disneyland Hotel to celebrate our Class of 2024 mentees and the village of support that empowers their potential. This magical morning included matches and families from our Community Program, as well as matches from our Workplace Mentoring Program at Disneyland Resort.

Over the last three years, Disneyland Resort Cast and Community mentors have provided inspiring guidance to students from Katella HS in Anaheim during a pivotal point in their lives. Thirteen cast members were each matched with a mentee, supporting the students as they progressed through their high school experience with monthly meetings, professional development opportunities, relationship-building activities, and more.

The barbershop has long been a community hub, a place for grooming and building confidence. That’s why we partnered with True School Barbershop for our latest community engagement event in Anaheim: Clip & Connect.

At the event, youth enjoyed music, free haircuts, backpacks, books, and a delicious lunch, all designed to uplift and support our families as they prepare for the new school year.

A huge thank you to our amazing partners for their dedication and support! Together, we’re creating smiles and making a real difference in our community.

When Annissa was in second grade, her mom enrolled her in Big Brothers Big Sisters, hoping for a mentor to guide her. A decade later, Annissa graduated from high school, thanks to her Big, Estela.

Estela has been a source of strength and inspiration, supporting Annissa through life's challenges. From organizing outings to offering words of encouragement, Estela’s impact earned her the title of California Big Sister of the Year in 2021.

This year, Estela proudly attended Annissa’s Senior Night and graduation, marking 10 years of incredible mentorship. As Annissa heads to college this fall, we celebrate their journey of growth and connection, showcasing the power of mentorship.

“Annissa dreams big because she has a strong support system,” says Estela. “My dream for Annissa is that she finds fulfillment and achieves all her goals.”

Their story is a beacon of hope and potential ignited. 🌟

Meet Paul and Jesus! Paul joined our program looking for a positive male role model, and in 2020, he was matched with Big Brother Jesus, a grad student at UC Riverside.

Together, they’ve grown and thrived. Jesus has guided Paul in becoming a responsible, mature, and respectful adult, and has been a constant support during tough times. Thanks to Jesus's mentorship, Paul graduated high school early and is now excitedly exploring his future paths. We’re so proud of you both! 💪🎓✨
