On this day 104 years ago, the ratification of the 19th Amendment was certified. Our PTA founding women had their first meeting in 1897, 23 years before they could vote. Women couldn't have their own bank accounts, get credit cards, or get a business or home loan without a male cosigner until 1974.

So today, we remember the strong women who have come before, and celebrate progress in women's rights. And we thank our dedicated women members and volunteers who do so much for our children and schools!

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was first celebrated in 1868. It is a federal holiday for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. From 1868 to 1970, it was observed on May 30. Since 1971, it is observed on the last Monday of May. As we are enjoying this long weekend, often thought of as the beginning of summer, let us take time to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country and our freedoms.

Here's some interesting military history to share with your family about the Medal of Honor. https://www.cmohs.org/medal/timeline

Fourth District PTA is conducting a Unit Membership Survey. We would like units to complete a short survey (Google form) about their membership program. 1 Completed Survey per Unit will enter them into a drawing to win $100 that can be used for their Fall membership drive. Survey must be completed by May 8th to qualify for the drawing. Three lucky PTAs will be randomly selected as winners!

The goal of the survey is to gather membership ideas that have worked well for our units. This information will be shared with other PTAs in Fourth District so that we can all benefit. The survey asks for information about the following:
*Membership themes or slogans used
*Prizes and incentives
*Tips that have worked for their PTA
*If your PTA is rebuilding, what are you doing to recruit members and engage families?

Units can upload their membership flyer or a screenshot of a social media post that their PTA used to earn a 2nd entry to the drawing.
