To the outskirts of San Miguel de Allende during the rainy season.

I just love the casita we rented in San Miguel. On Callejón Blanco, it was both on a quiet, picturesque street, and close to everything. Well designed in a very narrow parcel, this house contained quite an impressive collection of folk art. And it even had a lovely rooftop terrace which I wish I’d had more time to enjoy.

It’s the perfect time of year for a walk through El Charco del Ingenio. This botanical garden has been dedicated to the conservation, dissemination, and research of nature. Set right on the edge of town, around a ravine known as El Charco, it provides easily accessible trails through a pristine landscape. With summer being the rainy season, everything green and the cloudscapes are breathtaking.

Started out the day with a walk to .mx for the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Tomatillo jam?! Savory French toast?! Now we’re talking! Would it be too soon to go back again tomorrow?

When work goes on vacation…

Dropped into my favorite shop in San Miguel, Mixta, and knew right away that was in the house. Her inventive displays always make use of under appreciated materials.

There are precious few places on earth where I can knock on the door, any time of day or night, and be welcomed in like a long lost daughter. Billie has known me since before I was even born and is the keeper of many decades of Reinecke family history. Forever an inspiration, Billie continues to be a role model, for she is a master of living well and living creatively, all while being a devoted mother, then a grandmother and now a great grandmother. She’s one of the reasons I don’t fear aging.
