Kirtan... a direct line to the Divine

The nature of the Divine is absolute, hence the name and the essence are non-different. The process of kirtan, or the calling to the Divine by various names, invokes his presence and connects us to the Absolute.

Kirtan is a divine energy efficient vehicle to bring us in touch with our real nature… it’s sacred sound can take us light years away, yet simultaneously keep us grounded.

Tis the season to be.
Our world is filled with mystical celebrations, and whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any other of the myriad of holidays, kirtan is a universal expression of devotion and an opportunity for connection… connection with the Supreme, the self and one another.

Come join us on Saturday, December 9th, for a not-so-silent night of chanting and vegan fare. All are welcome regardless of belief or quality of voice! Street parking on Arrellaga or in parking lot off of Valerio Street BEHIND the church.

KIRTAN, a joyous melodic form of mantra meditation, helps us to gradually let go of that which ails the mind, those temporary things that bind us to the material realm (i.e., our jobs, finances, shortcomings, relationships, bodily identification, mental anguish, stress, etc.), and offers a new perspective by letting us see beyond the impermanent and giving a glimpse into the eternal.

Kirtan is ultimately something which cannot be explained by words, it has to be experienced. It‘s always a higher connection - even if you are not consciously feeling it. It‘s alive, progressive, and rich with the fine nuances of an unfolding relationship.

Sometimes it may act as a mirror which reveals the pulse of your inner life.
How can you describe the relish of honey, the emotion of love, or the event of giving birth? In some mysterious way, kirtan can be compared with all of that - but then it is also completely different.

Words can show us the direction in which to look for the kirtan-experience, but only when you sit down, move towards your inner space, and then sing out, will you start to know what kirtan really is. Because at that time your soul will rise up and start to dance ... ~Sacinandana Swami

Summer Solstice is on the horizon and what better way to celebrate and illuminate our souls than focused chanting of sacred songs in kirtan..

Very important for those who chant is to access the area of the heart. It should not be just lips which are moving or feet which are dancing. No, chant from the heart. Our heart should move and our heart should dance…

just as springtime is a season of growth and serenity, kirtan fosters our hearts to blossom and quiets the restless mind...

and the beat goes on...

Thanks to a fabulous turnout, our first kirtan at Ayni Gallery earlier this month unfolded into a soul-stirring evening. In response to the unanimous enthusiasm and requests, another has been scheduled for Friday, January 15th!
