Mint & Chipped

I also like to paint on canvas between projects. This is a study I’m doing (2hours in so far) for Kraken. I usually start by identifying the high & low values, then go in for the detail work.

It’s a 30x40” stretched canvas in acrylic. The backgrounds are always inspired by the same techniques I use on my furniture. It makes me think… should I paint a creature on a piece of furniture?

The before is the dark blue. It was never intended to stay this way and was just something I started, then abandoned….

Well, now I’ve decided to completely redo her in a soft white, teal and goldenrod with pops of coral. Then, top her off with some aging to create an Old World Finish 😍

Here she is! A beautifully restored piece inspired by the bees and wildflowers in my yard 🐝

Bee pulls for the flower carvings on the drawers! Thoughts? Too much? *May-bee* just the top drawers?

ETA: thank you for all the feedback. I’ve decided to settle with all bees. I did paint them a softer gold to match the tone of the finish. I’ve also settled in placing the bees to look like they are in flight- facing all different directions.

She’s complete! Staged and listed for sale locally. Refinished, all wood, dovetailed antique desk. Drawers fully lined. High gloss finish. She comes with the original glass top too.

She’s finally completed, but not yet staged. I’ll get to that this evening… I’m thinking a sunset over the horse field would look pretty.

Working on the details today. One down, two to go!

I believe my yin-yang inspired jellyfish piece is complete. As always, I’ll sleep on it and see how I feel in the morning. This one is 30x40”, so it’s quite large.

This beautiful secretary desk is complete.

Some front progress. I’m loving these dark layered tones with the pop of orange. It really highlights the detail of the square fronts.

I am back doing furniture again after a few years and I’m excited about this piece.
