Part 2 of my Valentine’s Day Collection is here! 💘🧼 What’s the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day? Well, instead of giving your loved one chocolate and roses, why not give them a more practical soap version! 🍫🌹 My Chocolate Bar soap smells just like a chocolate cake and my Wild Rose soap is a beautiful, romantic floral.

Want a more masculine soap? I’ve got you covered! 💪 I am introducing my new Shaving soap collection! 🪒 These soaps are formulated for an increased lather with extra castor oil and kaolin clay for a silky finish perfect for shaving faces, legs, and more. My black and white Marble Shaving soap is all-natural with a cedarwood essential oil blend and my Shave and a Haircut soap smells just like walking into a barber shop. 💈 In addition, I have a Hickory & Suede soap that uses shea butter for a moisturizing clean and makes you smell like a lumberjack, in a good way!

And my personal favorite, an update to my previous recipe is my Lemon Bar soaps, now made in a small square mold to give that perfect lemon bar shape. The smell is heavenly and with a sprinkle of titanium dioxide for that “powdered sugar” effect, these soaps are great for display in a guest bathroom! 🍋

Here they are, the first part of my February/Valentine's Day collection is here! Does anyone else feel a bad moon rising...? 😯🌕

I am SO pleased with my Moonlight Pomegranate soap, featuring my first attempt at a column mold embed! Not bad for a first try! 😉 Plus the scent is very sophisticated and romantic.

Along with that, we have some other fun fruity picks, Anjou Pear and Mango Coconut, both with shea butter and mango seed butter, respectively. My Black Raspberry Vanilla soap features organic chia seeds for added exfoliation.

I am also doing my first goat milk soaps, which comes in 3 scent varieties: Crisp Cotton FO, a Peppermint EO blend, or Unscented for those who want all of the benefits of goat milk soap but none of the fragrance. Variety is the spice of life, no?

And last but not least, back by popular demand, we have some cute little Succulent soaps with a lovely Clover and Aloe fragrance. There's a little something for everyone here!

Thanks for the love and support from anyone who likes or comments, means so much to me! 🥰

A sneak peak of my favorite soap tops from my new collection! 😍 I made a bunch of soap in December and they are so close to being ready. These lil beauties will be available soon, I will be doing releases on 1/21 and 1/28 for my February/Valentine's Day collection. 💘 This has been my most ambitious release yet and I am beyond excited to show these soaps off! 🧼

8 things to know about palm oil 01/14/2021

Hello, everyone! :) I thought I would take some time to write down the answers to a few common questions folks have about buying products responsibly, and to give more insight on how I make choices for my products. Here are some questions and answers about Free Thyme Soaps and my products! 🧼

Questions and Answers:
1. Do you use animal products in your soaps? Is everything vegan?

Most of my products are vegan! I make sure that all of my products are AT LEAST vegetarian, and if a product has an animal product in it, like honey, powdered goat milk, beeswax, etc., I will specify that in the description.

2. Why do you use palm oil in your soaps? I heard palm oil is bad for the environment. Isn't there something else you could use instead?

This is a really important issue that I would love to clarify my feelings on! Palm oil is a fantastic oil to use for soap making due to the key qualities that it contributes to soap bars; it adds firmness, creates lather when paired with coconut oil, and perhaps most importantly, it helps increase the longevity of soap, meaning a bar that lasts for more uses.

There are ways of substituting palm oil from soap recipes, and there are many palm free recipes out there! But many of these recipes tend to have the same problems: 1. not as long lasting as a bar with palm, 2. relying heavily on coconut oil to make up for a lack of firmness which makes the bar way too cleansing for people with sensitive skin, OR 3. replaces the palm oil with something arguably worse: the best ingredient to substitute palm oil with is... lard and tallow. Animal fat.

People have been making soap with animal fat for hundreds of years. Every time you make or buy a product, you are making a series of ethical decisions. I made the choice from the get-go that I want all of my products to be AT LEAST vegetarian. What I mean by that is, I am fine with using ingredients like honey, powdered goat milk, beeswax, etc., but I would not use any animal product that required the slaughter of animals to obtain. That was my decision to make and I stand by it. If you want a vegan bar of soap with the same qualities of a bar made with animal fat, palm oil is THE best vegan replacement.

My soaps use RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certified palm oil only! Palm oil usage is seen as controversial by many due to it's impact on deforestation and the environment, however, I feel strongly that boycotting palm oil entirely is not the best solution to the problem of sustainability. For more information about palm oil and it's impact on the environment, check out this WWF article, 8 Things to Know About Palm Oil: https://www.wwf.org.uk/updates/8-things-know-about-palm-oil

A key paragraph quote from the WWF article: "Palm oil is an incredibly efficient crop, producing more oil per land area than any other equivalent vegetable oil crop. Globally, palm oil supplies 35% of the world’s vegetable oil demand on just 10% of the land. To get the same amount of alternative oils like soybean or coconut oil you would need anything between 4 and 10 times more land, which would just shift the problem to other parts of the world and threaten other habitats and species. Furthermore, palm oil is an important crop for the GDP of emerging economies and there are millions of smallholder farmers who depend on producing palm oil for their livelihood. Boycotting palm oil is not always the answer, but demanding more action to tackle the issues and go further and faster, is."

3. Are your soaps all-natural? Is there any synthetic materials used?

Yes and No, depends on which soap! Some of my soaps feature fragrance oils, which are synthetic, and some have only essential oils, which are all-natural. This is specified in the description of every soap. Most of my micas are all-natural, but some feature synthetic additives, like FD C Yellow No. 5 Lake in my Lemon Bar soap to add to the yellow hue. Any listing of "mica" in the product description means natural mica was used. If a soap is "all-natural" I would describe it as such in the description.

Take care,

Megan
