Why South Africa? With a population of over 60 million people, the need for hearing health care is great. The country has a very long waiting list for people who need devices — and their wait could be several years! March 3 is World Hearing Day! Created by the World Health Organization (WHO), this annual day recognizes the need to make ear and hearing care more accessible to all. Currently, barriers to treatment for many patients include cost and stigma. We at Santa Clarita Hearing Center believe in changing mindsets related to ear and hearing care and ushering our patients through their own personal journeys! In a few weeks, Hearing the Call will revisit the island nation of Turks and Caicos! South Caicos, one of the country’s smallest communities, is home to just over 1,000 people. Because of how remote the area is, there is a desperate need for healthcare. Hearing the Call is proud to offer hearing exams and ear cleanings to local school children, as well as hearing aids to those that need them. Hearing the Call is growing! In October, the non-profit partnered with the Tryall Fund to bring free hearing healthcare to the people of Montego Bay, local schools, and HopeWell Basic in Jamaica.
