Two and a half minutes before midnight on March 12, 1928, the St. Francis Dam, located just north of Santa Clarita, catastrophically failed. The collapsed structure sent a 185 foot wall of water rushing down San Francisquito Canyon, down the Santa Clara river and out to the pacific ocean near Oxnard.
