Parenting Tip: Ask more questions, give less advice. If you tell your teen what to do, he may balk. But if the solution is his, he owns it.
Rather than giving your son or daughter a directive, ask them their ideas and plans for solving the problem. If the solution comes from them, it’s far more likely to turn into action.

A New York Times article titled 'This Teen Was Prescribed 10 Psychiatric Drugs. She’s Not Alone' is the subject of a recent podcast.

Richtel's story describes the journey of one teenager who went on a long path of emotional pain and psychopharmaceutical responses that were obscene. Eventually, she faced personal circumstances that changed her perspective on herself and life and she got off of most drugs and developed appropriate goals and activities that made sense for her. Did she really need to go through years of trial-and-error medication cocktails when some family therapy and mental health skill development could have done the trick?

This Teen Was Prescribed 10 Psychiatric Drugs. She’s Not Alone. (Published 2022) Increasingly, anxious and depressed teens are using multiple, powerful psychiatric drugs, many of them untested in adolescents or for use in tandem.
Generally, giving kids lots of advice about what to do to make themselves feel better will fall on deaf ears because kids discover the relationship between their choices and their feelings on their own. Lecturing on the subject will only invite resistance but gentle encouragement to learn from experience or even telling personal stories in non-threatening ways, can help this important part of learning about yourself along.

A testimonial for the book, "Ending the Parent-Teen Control Battle"
neildbrown.com/books
"Ending the Parent-Teen Control Battle defines a purposeful and mindful path through the often volatile minefield of life with a defiant teen. Neil Brown's strong, experienced, and always-to-the-point voice has helped our family clarify our problematic journey with our teen grandson. His book brings organization and rational thought to an often messy, disorderly family dynamic. It reminds parents to envision our child as his best self, and helps us to become our best parenting selves. Simply put, this book has provided us the knowledge, hope, and courage to greet each new teen-parenting day."
--Margaret Wilson, custodial grandparent
