Santa Cruz Paddlefest
SUP surf, kayak surf, and waveski at the world-famous Steamer Lane.
Save the Date: March 28-30, 2025
We have a preliminary permit, which includes Marine Safety, to make this event happen on these dates. Again, for 2025 this will be a surf event at Steamer Lane and Indicators, but not have a race element.
Costs are high to make this surf event happen and have gone up substantially since last run in 2019. We'll likely do a crowdsourcing campaign very soon and will be looking for sponsorship partners. Please let us know if you or any companies you are close with would be interested in financially supporting the SCPF and/or if you have other creative fundraising ideas. We will be reaching out to potential sponsors in November.
We plan to move forward with planning and fundraising now and wait until early in the new year to open registration. By then we will know if the support needed to make the event happen is out there. It will take the community coming together to make this happen.
We hope to see you in the lineup at the 34th SCPF in 2025!
Sincerely,
Bryon and Julie
Let's support our friends in the PNW who are reviving the Hobuck Hoedown this October. Not only will they have surfing, but also a race.
I'll be there and hope to share the lineup with many of you. -Bryon Dorr

Update:
We want to keep you in the loop, as this is a community event. We've applied for the event permit from the city. We're doing a lot of organization in the background, but won't be reaching out to sponsors, opening registration, updating the website, etc... until we have a preliminary permit in hand and lifeguards secured. We expect to have all that in a few weeks, hopefully, at which time we'll properly get to work and start involving more people in the process. Thanks for your patience as we work towards making SCPF 2025 happen.
Cheers... Bryon and Julie
PS: A HUGE thanks to a few of you who have reached out and made donations to the event. The money is going directly into securing the permit and other upfront setup costs.
As I'm sure you all know, prices have risen across the board for nearly everything in the past few years. We're seeing this as we pencil out expenses for the SCPF 2025 as well. There is a large deficit between entry fees and the funds needed to run this event.
We're currently working on creative ways to fully fund the event and would love any ideas and/or sponsor leads that might help us do this. We appreciate your time and thoughts. It will take a community effort to bring this important legacy event back to life, and we have an amazing community.
Note: We are still in the preliminary stages of getting this event to happen again, but we're working hard to make it a reality. Most hurdles have/are being cleared, but the financial one is a big one we're still figuring out.
Cheers, Julie & Bryon
URGENT:
Hello paddle surf tribe! Julie Mitravich and I (Bryon Dorr) have been handed the reins of the SCPF to see if we can revive this amazing event that means so much to so many of us. Based on our analysis of the financials, after talking to the city, and essentially securing the lifeguards, we think we can make the surf event (likely not the race) happen in 2025, specifically March 28-30th.
This is a big undertaking that requires us to volunteer a lot of time and commit to some relatively significant financial risk, so we need some serious commitments from the community in order to take the next steps to make the event happen.
So, what we need from you: Comment on this post expressing your interest in surfing at the 34th annual SCPF 2025 and if you'd like to be added to a list of people we can count on to volunteer a bit of time. Please also share this post far and wide so we can get a feel for the community support we can expect.
Santa Cruz Paddlefest is seeking a new Event Director. If you are interested in organizing this amazing event, email us at [email protected]
As we are reluctant to make this announcement, it is something we must do. Unfortunately, Santa Cruz Paddlefest 2023 is canceled.
While we had high hopes and lots of excitement in bringing back this beloved event in 2023, we experienced several unforeseen hurdles which make next year’s contest untenable.
