Yeshe Jackson Fine Art

Welcome to Yeshe Jackson Fine Art's page! Vibrant paintings from Santa Cruz, California. Hello!

My name is Yeshe Jackson, I'm an artist based in Santa Cruz, California. My formal art education was at Humboldt State University, where I received a Bachelor's degree in studio art in 2003. My passion is for creating paintings that are so realistic that they will transport you directly to a specific place, so that you can experience being there every time you look at one. Seascapes are one of my favorite subjects at the moment, although I also love landscapes and wildlife paintings.

Illusion of Self,
Acrylic on canvas, 36x48”
2023

A moment of absolute bliss, captured in strokes of paint…

The luminosity of the sunlight, the delicate layers of texture and color, and the sense of movement all come together to make this a very beautiful and dramatic piece. It’s the kind of painting that lets your mind drift away, feeling perfectly at ease as you contemplate the vast complexity and beauty of the universe.

I’ve decided to call the painting style I’m developing Poetic Realism.

It’s a departure from photorealism in that it’s imbued with memories, creative expression and emotion.
In this style I combine super realistic and delicately detailed elements with expressive brush strokes and palette knife marks. I use my memory of the scene and my imagination to go beyond what my reference photo shows, creating a unique piece of art that reflects my experience of being there. The end result is a realism that goes far behind what a photograph can capture.

What do you think of this style of art?

Hopes and Dreams,
Acrylic on canvas, 24x36”

Sometimes the most beautiful part of the evening is the afterglow of the sunset. In the moments between the bright burst of colors and the darkening night, the sky is filled with a gentle lavender glow. There is a feeling of restful relief, and it is a perfect time to ponder your thoughts.

Sailing into Silence,
Acrylic on canvas, 36x24”

Sweeter than Sugar,
Acrylic on canvas, 24x36”
2024

A beautiful and dreamy sunset over the Monterey Bay, seen from 26th Ave beach in Santa Cruz. Huge waves are thundering across the horizon, dissipating into soft blue foam as they roll up the beach toward your feet. The mirror-like reflection of the sky upon the wet sand creates a surreal sensation, while feeling realistic enough that you could walk right into the scene.

Golden Light,
Acrylic on canvas, 20x20”

Not for sale.

This is one of two paintings that I’ve submitted for the upcoming California Landscape Exhibition at the Santa Cruz Art League. I haven’t entered many juried exhibitions yet, so I’m just a wee bit nervous. Wish me luck 🍀🙏💕!

05/21/2024

I’m getting close to finishing this one. Another layer of detail and texture (especially in the middle area of waves and foam), and a few minor color shifts should wrap it up nicely. I’m loving how the wet sand is turning out!

So Far Away,
Acrylic on canvas, 36x24”
2024

While driving north on Highway 1 along the coast of Big Sur, we pulled over to watch the sunset. The lights of oncoming cars twinkled as they rounded the winding curves of the rugged coast. A brilliant orange and lavender sky full of ever changing clouds filled the scene with a warm glow.

Way back Wednesday - My first acrylic painting!

I was at my mom’s house a couple weeks ago and came across this painting from about 30 years ago, which I did in Mrs. Lanni’s art class at San Lorenzo Valley High School. I loved the process of creating this painting so much that I started painting all the time, and haven’t stopped since!

05/03/2024

Happy Friday! 🥳 Here’s what’s currently on my easel…

I love when a painting gets to the point that I can start to feel the warmth of the light. This one still has quite a bit of work left to do, but I’m really enjoying the results so far! 😍

Tale of the Tides,
Acrylic on canvas, 36x60”
2024

I’ve got this new painting on my living room wall right now, and am really enjoying the way the colors change throughout the day in different light. The scene is full of life and movement, bringing the feeling of a coastal sunset right into my home.

If you’d like to come have a look at this piece or any of my other available work, just send me a message to schedule a studio visit 😍.

Crown of Clouds,
Acrylic on canvas, 36x60”
2024

A brief break in a winter storm allows enough light through to create a beautiful sunset over the Monterey Bay. The drifting bank of clouds overhead sits atop the colors of the sky like a magical crown. Waves crash, birds soar overhead, and the foam edge of the ocean glides gently up the wet sand to your feet.

My latest work in progress…

I’m adding layers of texture and adjusting the colors. Usually my finished paintings have about 3-5 layers
of paint, depending on the particular spot on the canvas. Some places require more, some less, but there’s always at least a few layers interacting throughout the painting.

My goal is to make each part of the painting interesting, while maintaining a cohesive feel and harmonious colors. It requires a lot of patience, as I have to constantly step back between brushstrokes to assess the composition. Getting too wrapped up putting detail in certain areas without considering the whole piece can lead to mistakes that have to be repainted.

Want to see my work up close? Come to my Spring Studio Sale! 4/20 and 4/21 from noon to 5pm.
