Meet Agatha Christie and Louise Penny. Two cats who's prose couldn't be any more different, but you'll love them just the same.

They are two orange tabby females (which is relatively rare because about 75% of orangies are male!) who are a little over a year. Both ladies were found as sickly kittens down by the levee and were then whisked away to get the medical care and socialization they needed to enter into the world of "house cats."

Agatha, the shorter haired of the two, is extremely loving with people and wants all the affection and attention. Louise, is a bit more reticent, but when in the presence of Agatha, she will follow her lead right into our hands and laps.

We are considering them a bonded pair at this time and looking for a home where they can remain two books on the same shelf. That said, they do have a funny relationship. Louise LOVES Agatha and thinks she's everything and more. Agatha, on the other hand, gets quite annoyed with Louise's constant love bombing and is known to give her a good smack when she's had enough. Louise is never offended or deterred from her expressions of love.

Wanna meet them? Come on down during Browsing Hours (Wed - Sun from 11 to 5pm)

This is Satellite. Gets lots of channels and great reception! Can also hear an ant trip one block over.

Sweet baby Satellite is a 4-month-old German Shepherd mix pup who needs a person! He wouldn't mind multiple and also wouldn't object to a dog or cat friend. Poor little guy is just timid and feels small in a big world -- he needs permanent friends to let him know it's all gonna be ok.

Our volunteers have been giving him little trips out into the world and while he'll tentatively explore, he'd much rather cuddle and snuggle. He's not the toy crazy shark toothed puppy you might expect, he's a sensitive and sweet soul who would climb right into your heart if he could. Although when he's 100% comfy in a home he may reveal his puppy!

This boy and his ears came to us with several other pups who have since been adopted. We are so sad to see him left behind! Who needs a Satellite? We provide free installation.😁

Come meet him during Browsing Hours (Wed-Sun from 11am - 5pm)! 🐶

😻HAPPY TAILS😻

A few months post adoption and former shelter kitties, Mr. Handsome and Zuzu, are living it up in their new home, complete with a catio to keep them safe!

"Both are doing well, eating well, and just basically taking full advantage of their environment! Mr. Handsome and Zuzu sometimes also come all the way indoors and hang out on the stairs going up to my office, but they seem to overwhelmingly prefer the outdoor catio during these summer months. Perhaps in the winter time they will spend more time with us in the living room and on the couches!

Both of them now mix freely with the other cats at dinner time. Zuzu hops over the partition into the rest of the house and comes to bash us with her head when she knows dinner time is near, or she just wants to be brushed. She is very chatty! Mr. Handsome has elected to keep mostly to himself, though he will allow himself to be picked up and petted now, he’s just not as sociable as Zuzu. This is fine, we let him dictate the pace of the engagement!"

Can you imagine a better home? We can't! 🥰

. Oh, that means Thank God it's . And Bobby and Mila are the perfect pair to bring home this weekend! 🐱🐱

Bobby (4yr tabby boy) and Mila (4yr white/grey girl) lived together in a previous home and became best buds. This loving and playful pair has had their fill of shelter vacay and are ready to be happily housed. If that home came with a good amount of salmon flavored Churu that would be great.

Their past life history is not fully known to us so we aren't sure if they've lived with other cats or dogs before. But, like we always say, anything's possible with a slow and thoughtful intro!

Who is looking for a pair of sweet kitties who will love you when your home and love each other when you're gone? Come on in during Browsing Hours (Wed-Sun 11am-5pm) and ask for Bobby and Mila or fill out an Adopter's Profile to learn more! 🤎🤍

This is Leonardo. Expressive and majestic as a da Vinci.

This 4-year-old floof of a Shepherd, Malamute, Keeshond mix is an absolute sweet angel boy. He's a compact 70 pounds who looks like he'd protect you but in actuality would let a robber in and then bring them a beer. Leonardo has never met a stranger he didn't lick and has lived with men, women, and children in his past life.

He also loves other dogs and plays the day away with a rotating group of pup pals. He lives for walks, runs, and the great outdoors (beach, rivers, mountains), enjoys car rides, and would consider himself a toy enthusiast as well.

Leonardo has been observed to be too much of a fan of smaller animals, like cats, bunnies, guinea pigs -- and has even unalived a chicken once. So, should probably steer clear of those in his next home.

Who is looking for a ? So much amazing in one package doesn't come along every day. Come in during Browsing Hours (Wed-Sun) and get a load of this guy! 😍

🥰HAPPY TAILS🥰

"On National Dog Day and the 3 year anniversary of my adoption of Domino I wanted to share some adventures she has been on since. I also want to thank you all so much for the work you do and bringing this amazing girl into my life!"

We think it's safe to say . Wow!

It's so heartwarming to see this pup, who we picked up at the airport after flying all the way from Oklahoma in a Bay Area effort to help out an OK shelter in crisis, living an incredible life that almost wasn't lived at all...😭

This is Champagne. Ready to make a toast to a new home but can't seem to pass the other glass to the right person.

This four-year-old pretty kitty has called the SCSPCA home twice now. She came in as an older kitten with ringworm, endured months of treatment, and then found a loving home. A few years later, her person became ill and could no longer keep her, so she's now back with us. Poor Champs.

Change is hard for her. Always has been. When she's comfy and in a routine, she's happy, loving, and affectionate. When she's not...well, she's much less happy, loving, and affectionate. But goes to reason, right?

Champagne is looking for a cat lover through the through. The kind of person who knows and loves how cats operate and isn't turned off by the transition period that a sensitive kitty, such as Champagne, needs.

We could see her doing well with another cat who is social -- with a slow and thoughtful intro of course. Wanna meet her or learn more? Call the adoptions desk (831-465-5000) Wed-Sun 11-5 and ask for Champagne!

This is Maverick. Bigger absolutely means better in his case.

Yes, he does weigh in at 96 lbs, but he distributes his weight in a way that you sort of forget he's that big. Maverick is an Anatolian Shepherd (who acts like a Lab) and is estimated to be about 2 years old.

We mentioned he acts like a Lab because he LOVES toys, playing fetch, and people. He'll go right up to just about anyone with a soft body and an "I immediately love you" face.

With other dogs, he's been a playgroup star and his list of buddies is impressive. Pretty much everyone can play with Maverick. Even though he's so big, he adjusts himself to meet the needs of other dogs. He'll lay down to play with the littles, he'll body slam with the pitties, and he'll just run around with the ones that don't necessarily want to touch bodies. That's kind of a rare find around here!

He was in a home previously, and knows some basic commands, is crate trained, rides well in the car, and does ok when left alone. It's been reported that chasing cats is a bit of a guilty pleasure for Maverick and that it might be best to go feline-free.

If you'd like to meet this big sweetheart, feel free to call our adoptions desk or stop by during Browsing Hours: Wed-Sun 11-5!

🖤ADOPTION FEE SPONSORED BY GENEROUS DONOR🖤

This is Sharpie. Nose everything there is to nose. Except why he doesn't have a home yet.

But thanks to one of our fosters, he's getting a much needed shelter break in a home, and is settling in like he owns the place. Sharpie found an adoptive family a while back but just couldn't get past the idea that a cat came with the deal. So, this big and beautiful 4-year-old Lab/Shar Pei mix is back on the market, looking to leave a permanent love mark on another lucky human -- without cats. 😆

Sharpie has enjoyed play time with other dogs here at the shelter. He's less into body slamming and MMA style play, and would prefer a "you chase me, I'll chase you" type of dog buddy. He loves everyone he meets and is super cuddly and affectionate, including with kids (although he can be a bit of bulldozer to the real littles).

And, just look at that face...🖤🖤

This is Cinnamon. She's sugary and sweet and would like to be sprinkled in all areas of your life.

This two-year-old mamma cat reared a healthy litter of kittens, sent them on their way, and now patiently awaits her forever. And that forever will include no more kittens, but she wouldn't mind some human kids!

Her previous foster said ""Cinnamon is one the of the sweetest cats! She is very affectionate and loves people. She is not afraid of children or dogs. Loud noises, sweeping around her, etc., does not phase her. She loves to lounge around and sit next to you for pets and is fine with people holding her (she will purr nonstop!) She is a love bug!"

The reason she is still here is probably due to the fact that she is living a very healthy life with FIV. And she will most likely live a long and full life without ill effects from those three letters. But it does mean that we recommend that she be an indoor kitty who would make a great companion for another FIV kitty or as an only cat-child.

Cinnamon is seriously one of the sweetest and most affectionate and laid-back cats in the shelter, ya'll are missing out!

If you'd like to meet her, come on in during Browsing Hors, Wed-Sun 11-5 and ask for Cinny Minny! 🤎🤍

Here's Lucy and Ricky, a double act who can sass one another just as hard as they love each other.

We are looking to keep these one-year-old siblings together, as they've lived life side by side since being found as babies in a garage. They were then in a home for about a year, where they lived with dogs in an indoor-only environment.

They are both incredibly playful and love those wand toys. Ricky and Lucy both enjoy being pet and getting that good good love and affection. Both did well with our summer campers and love the time they spend with their cat volunteers.

If you're looking for a beautiful pair of young and playful kitties, this brother/sister combo would be an amazing choice! Come meet them during Browsing Hours (Wed - Sun from 11am-5pm) 🥰

This is Rex. He'll be your dog's best friend. 🐶🐶

He'll also eventually be yours but this boy has a heart for his own species and we think that's pretty cool. Rex is pushing 3-years-old, is about 50-ish pounds, and from what we can tell, a total breed hodge-podge.

He came to us after his owner had a stroke and went into a bit of shelter shock when he arrived. He was stuck in the "What in the world?" phase for a while but with the help of amazing staff and gentle volunteers, he's moved into the "This is a pretty cool world!" phase. He can still be shy around loud noises and fast movements, but becomes a braver boy every day.

In Rex's past life, he lived in a home with other dogs and kids and is reported to be house-trained, crate-trained, and well-mannered in the home. He loves walks and would a great running buddy.

Wanna learn more about Rex? Submit and Adopter's Profile online, call our adoptions desk, or feel free to stop by during Browsing Hours: Wed-Sun 11-5!

This is Georgia. She's a rare black and white peach who was quite fruitful this Spring, bringing into the world her very last harvest.

We went a little far there, and if you're lost, we are talking about kittens. All six of them are now in their forever homes and Georgia is hoping to not be too far behind.

This sweet kitty is a youngster herself, only a year old, but is kind, gentle, and loves to be pet by the people. We have not seen her with cats other than her own kittens but given how young she is, we're sure she has the potential to make kitty friends with the right intro.

We strongly recommend coming to meet this super soft black and white beauty marked babe. And you can do so during Browsing Hours from Wed-Sun 11-5 -- and ask for Georgia! 🖤🤍

Session 8 of Summer Camp is a wrap -- and that concludes Kids Camp 2024!

Wow, that was 8 weeks of fun, games, fur, and feathers! We had an absolute blast with all eight sessions. HUGE thank you to all of our presenters this year -- LittleHill Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, Hen Harbor, The Rabbit Haven, Furball Critters, Native Animal Rescue of Santa Cruz County, and Santa Cruz County Mounted Posse -- who brought in animals of all types to raise awareness and provide education.

We hope to see everyone next year -- and if you didn't get your kiddo in on this year's fun, email [email protected] to get on the email list for next year's announcement/reminders!
