Studio Hozuki
Abstract acrylic artwork by Elizabeth Lee inspired by Nature and People.
This one is called Divine Catch. Hanging in the home of a Portland collector. Thanks to for the photo.
People often think of me as a painter of bright colors & vibrant energy. But often I paint from a place of helplessness, or, in the case of my mom’s passing, a lot of grief. She was sick for many years. The paintings, over these years of struggle, were certainly my way to cling to positivity, life in its fullest, and reverence for this temporaral existence.
Divine Catch is from a series of pandemic paintings that will be a book, hopefully completed by the end of this year. I’ll share more on that later.
Art, often underfunded, immeasurable and unquantifiable when budget cuts occur, is our lifeline to inspiration, hope, and resilience in the face of the pain of our inexplicable humanity.
I wish you a life full of art and rich in love!

Just a shoutout to for my lovely blue velvet couch that has 2 sitting stations. Thank you thank you!!! So comfortable! I love it! Doing oracle readings in that rear corner which is super cozy. The other area is for gazing at the painting wall, which i do a lot of 🤣. If you’re interested in the deck DM me. Free reading with the purchase of a deck. On zoom too!
My neighbor’s door. She’s a ceramicist.

Tiny green madonna & purple beast
2018-ish
Apologies for not posting in sooooooo long!!!
Thanks to everyone who’s been hanging in there as I setup the new studio & organize inventory (fun, fun, fun).
Lots more coming soon as it’s finally not a disaster zone here!
Happy Monday everyone!
My favorite feature of the new studio is the outdoor courtyard. Such a huge upgrade for me!
The first painting done in the new studio! Swipe left. The floor!
I was getting carried away at Home Depot with all the color options. I had to remind myself that the floor is not a painting. Otherwise I was about to end up with the deep, purple floor, or a magenta floor. I really had to control myself. So I ended up with the dullest “builders beige“.
before Instagram existed, there was an exhibit at the Asian art Museum, (the new Asian, that was the old San Francisco library, not the one in Golden Gate Park). It was an amazing exhibit and the floor was covered in pink flowers.
There was a Korean nun there who was painting an enormous Buddhist artwork, on the floor. The face of the deity was hidden. The face would be painted last, and ceremonialized later, when they would summon the spiritual deity into the painting.
It certainly made an impression on me, and has influenced my process.
Nonetheless, I restrained myself with the floor.
Some flowers for you! Happy Valentine’s Day! This one is called Love & Forgiveness. Using the lotuses to wipe away all that muddy stuff❤️

Mt. Hua Guo [花果山]
Abstract landscape
Acrylic mixed media painting
2021
18” x 24” | on wood
Santa Cruz, Ca
Many of my paintings are inspired by literature. This fantastical landscape is named after a place in the Chinese Classic, Journey to the West, a 16th century folk novel. Mount Hua Guo, the mountains of flowers and fruit, is where a stone monkey, Sun WuKong. was born.
A quote from the book about the Monkey’s birth is inscribed on the back of the painting. This tale about a Monkey’s Journey to India to find the sacred scriptures that will save all humanity is particularly endearing to me, because my Chinese zodiac sign is Earth Monkey.
I used my mixed media process of printing the base layer with a gelli press, painting layers on top with paint and acrylic inks. Final layers were completed with paint pens and glitter.
Grateful.
To your happiness.
Loved seeing .gallery 12 x 12 show. 2of her pieces on the wall behind us. The circle is an exceptional abstract of the crane yard .artists .

.gallery has a fundraiser every year. I like to participate. We are so lucky to have a Cabrillo College here. The teachers are so generous and caring to the students. The gallery curates great art shows as well.

Flashback to Open Studios last year

That’s her beautiful artwork behind me!
Happy Dia de los Mu***os friends. Thinking about all the loved ones supporting us from the other side.
This is an older painting.

In the studio. I do use those chopsticks & toothbrushes to make random marks. The rags were medical waste gifted to me by a fellow artist. Her daughter works in healthcare. I won’t say where. There should be a program to reappropriate all the vast amounts of medical waste that accumulates daily.
The painting is title “The acceptance of all that is.” Painting is complete. I’m still working on the acceptance 😂
Happy Halloween everyone.
for your Monday
A little upcycled commission. Fun to paint. Have been varnishing these guys all week with 24 hours between each coat. Last application starts today. Tomorrow I’ll do the base.
Vitaliy was really into these in the hospital. They were on the grocery list for a while post- surgery. I’d been saving the jars because I liked the shape. Now, a year later, I’m happy to see these going out as gift bud vases— containers for flowers— couldn’t be more perfect.
Most of my work cones from this place of resolving pain and trying to transform it into something that makes sense. Always wanting to create beauty, which often fails 😂 but that leads to the next bit.
Have a transformative weekend. What are you up to? I’ll be painting…
Varnishing time

About Studio Hozuki - by Elizabeth Lee
I’m Elizabeth—a painter of abstracts inspired by nature, people included! In today's modern, fast-paced world, it's easy to miss smelling the flowers. I create art hoping to inspire people to slow down and appreciate the little things. To me, our day-to-day moments and internal experiences are what truly matter.
I have followed the atypical path of a creator, like a goat winding up the mountain path. I was 17 when I first discovered Georgia O'Keefe's flowers, from a coffee table book in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Utterly moved by her work, a seed took root in my heart. I was burning with ideas that I wanted to express. My medium has changed over the years, but I've always been a visual artist.
I love the meditative process of painting. It's a way to connect with universal aspects of myself. If it speaks to you, I am honored to be able to share this vision! When the dream of my own artist's studio manifested, I was finally able to create with abandon the works presented here.
I named this space Studio Hozuki after the plant which bears fruit in its dying state. This luscious berry symbolizes new life waiting in transition, after a passing season. It holds a deep secret of life for me, that is, hope eternal. There will be a Spring after Winter. Nature has its cycles, and humans belong that, in spite of modernity.
