CENTER is excited to announce our next Project Labs Workshop: Public Outreach & Engagement with Mary Anne Redding.
Presented by Turchin Center for the Visual Arts Curator and Review Santa Fe Portfolio Reviewer Mary Anne Redding, the Public Outreach & Engagement Workshop focuses on effective strategies for engaging the public, from honing a statement of purpose, identifying collaborators, and creating effective presentations for education.
This workshop will cover how to submit work – including what goes into the exhibition and outreach proposal and what to expect after your proposal has been accepted. The add-on review provides participants with an invaluable portfolio review session with Redding to refine their projects.

CENTER and Turner Carroll Gallery present a panel discussion that explores the intersection of photography and the contemporary art world. How do the two seemingly disparate realms overlap, inform, and categorize themselves and each other? What makes a photographic project contemporary art? How can photography fit into contemporary collections?
Panelists Fatemeh Baigmoradi (Artist), Natalie Christensen (Artist), Shastyn Blomquist (Gallerist), and Angie Rizzo (CENTER) discuss the biases and trepidations around photography, as well as how and when it rides the line between worlds.

From the Notes for an Epilogue project statement: ““Bears were held under cruel conditions in many places across the country, both before and even after the revolution. Bears kept in circuses or as pets in confined cages, used for bear-dancing or tied in front of restaurants, were mostly severely underfed. To rescue these animals a special safety shelter, the Libearty Bear Sanctuary, was founded in the mountains near Zărnești in 2005."

From the Deer Planet project statement: “In March 2011, two weeks after the Great East Japan Earthquake, I visited Nara, the ancient capital of Japan, for the first time in a while. What I saw there were stags fighting with antlers in front of a hotel, and a couple of deer standing dignifiedly in the middle of an intersection. Acting majestically, they seemed to be the masters in the town after human beings have disappeared."

Yuyan is an indigenous National Geographic photographer. From the People of the Whale project statement: “People of the Whale is the story of an Iñupiaq whaling crew, living where the vast plain of ice meets the waters of the Arctic Ocean. For the last 2000 years, the Iñupiat have stood on the edge of the sea ice, waiting for the migration of bowhead whales."
